How to Lower Your Chances of Getting Cancer

Patricia ZelmEmmart, CHHC
Nothing is for sure, but there are a few things we can all do to lower our chances of cancer showing up in our bodies. We all have had a friend or family member who has either come through cancer or died from it. I want to share a few natural and simple things we can all do every day to stay healthy in the present and for the future.

• Good health: Eat well by lowering fat consummation, and eating more natural foods. Take the time to make an exercise routine on a daily basis. If you smoke, get serious about quitting. Refrain from heavy alcohol drinking. This only puts stress on your liver along with other organs.

• Avoid being exposed to harmful radiation. Be informed and ask questions of doctors or technicians if x-rays are needed. Being exposed to unnecessary radiation could weaken the immune system.

• Avoid over exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Using tanning beds on a regular basis will give unhealthy amounts of ultraviolet radiation, which could cause skin damage. We all need sun light and the wonderful vitamin D is gives us, but in small amounts.

• Reduce exposure to and consumption of harmful chemicals. There are many different kinds of chemicals to consider. Here are a few: Tobacco, Saccharin, Red Dye no.2, and Sassafras. Some of these compounds can interact with our DNA to start cell mutations, which will end in cancer. By just thinking about and minimizing our exposure to things like herbicides, pesticides and other poisons we will lower our risk factors. Take notice of the cleaning products you use around your home. They can contain many harmful chemicals that are being breathed in everyday. Since going green has become so easy, why not make the change in your home.

• Take supplements. It is a known fact that our food, even if it is organic, has less nutritional value. Particularly when farmland is over utilized and not properly rejuvenated. This is why good quality natural supplements have become so important in our daily routine to stay healthy. Something to always keep in the back of your mind is if your immune system is weakened cell mutations could begin.
