Keeping "bad" LDL cholesterol under control can prove to be very difficult for many people. Yet low cholesterol is essential to a healthy heart. Aside from taking medication there are other steps you can take to lower your cholesterol.
Simple changes in your diet can help you avoid the need for medication all together.

Breakfast- By adding just 3/4 of a cup of almonds to your daily bowl of cereal you can lower your cholesterol by up to 7% in just one month. Almonds are high in argining, an amino acid crucial for keeping blood vessels wide open allowing them to remove bad cholesterol build-up. You can also try adding a grapefruit to your morning meal to help lower cholesterol by 20% within a month. Grapefruit contains high levels of antioxidants which stop fatty deposits from accumulating on artery walls.

Lunch- Try a nice soup made with pinto beans. Just half a cup a day can lower your cholesterol by 8% in just eight weeks. Pinto beans contain tons of fiber to break down LDL cholesterol and prevent it from gathering. Another good switch to make is using avocado instead of cheese. One avocado a day can lower cholesterol by 22% after just one week. Avocadoes contain sterol beta-sitosterol that won't block the body's natural removal of bad cholesterol.

Dinnner- Make sure to add a heaping helping of steamed veggies to your plate. Steamed vegetables contain lots of fiber to help rid your body of nasty cholseterol. You can also try using olive oil instead of your usual corn oil or vegetable oil. Olive oil helps keep bad cholesterol from sticking to your arteries.
