How to Lower Your Cholesterol Easily

Like every other animal on the planet humans produce a waxy substance called cholesterol, but the lucky residents of barnyards and forests are never told by their doctors that they are producing too much. More to the point your own doctor might have told you that you are producing too much of the bad kind of cholesterol or LDL and not enough of the good type which is HDL. Start learning how to lower your cholesterol by reading up on what you need to know at NHLBI. See Resources for link.

Add Water .As your doctor might have told you drinking more water won't lower your cholesterol all by itself, but it can help you avoid mistaken signals. Many people reach for snacks too often because they have come to mistake the internal signal for being thirsty with mild hunger pangs. If you are experiencing low energy or an empty feeling during the day try drinking some water before succumbing to the snack machine, and you might find a glass or two hits the spot instead.

Try following the eight and eight rule. Drink an eight ounce glass of water eight times a day and this will improve your overall health. While the water can't wash away the cholesterol it does carry impurities out of the body which will enhance your body's ability to produce HDL.

Exercise Your Way to Better Health. You might have been expecting to be placed on medication when you when you found out you have a cholesterol problem, but many doctors are asking their patients to try exercise before starting a statin. If you can lower your cholesterol with the diet and exercise you can avoid the side effects you might have while taking a statin, and you will find you have more energy and overall better health.

Working out does not have to mean joining a gym, lifting weights, or training like you will be running in a marathon. In fact, at first you might want to take it easy and start with something as simple as taking long walks in the evening. As you lose weight and get used to exercise you can start finding more advanced workouts. Visit sites such as American Health to find out more about becoming fit through exercise. Reduce Your Fat Baby. The easiest way to reduce cholesterol is not to take any more on, so take in no more than 7% of your total calories for the day. Saturated fat such as you might find greasy food is very likely to raise blood cholesterol than any other food, so avoid these whenever possible.

Try to eat more green leafy vegetables, other types of vegetables, whole grains, and try limiting red meat, fatty dairy products, processed foods such as baked goods, and as mentioned fried, greasy foods. Some good recipes for lowering your cholesterol at sites such as All Recipes. See Supporting Links for link.

Eat more fiber. Most people with cholesterol problems do not get enough fiber. Try adding oats, beans, fruits, and vegetables to your diet. These types of food are good for you since they help trap cholesterol in the digestive tract and pass them through the body before they can enter the bloodstream.

Once you get started you might find yourself surprised at how easy it is to lower your cholesterol.
