This article will explain how to alter your eating habits and lower your cholesterol in order to potentially lower your chance of heart disease. Various types of heart disease affect millions of Americans and people around the world.

The first thing that you may want to include more in your diet is fruits and vegetables, fresh if possible. You should try to eat four to five servings each day. This may seem like a lot, but find fruits and vegetables that you enjoy and this will be simple. These foods are great for quick snacks as well as with meals.

You will also want to eat a lot of pasta, rice, and grains. These types of food can lower your cholesterol greatly. They can also be included in a meal very easily. Include these types of foods in each meal and every snack during the day that you can.

Having your dairy products for the day is also important to your body. Two to four servings is the right amount for a typical day. To decrease the amount of fat in your dairy intake, try low fat products. Try buying 1% milk and low-fat cheeses and other dairy products.

Protein is also very important to your body. Fatty meat is not the only way to increase your protein intake. Try eating foods like beans that are very high in protein and good for you. When eating your beans for the day, make sure to not put loads of butter on them either as most people do. Eat them cooked, but with nothing on them.

What you drink is also important. There are several beverages that can help lower your cholesterol and your fight against heart disease. Different types of juices are simple beverages that you can have at any time of the day. Apple, Orange, and Grape juice all are good for lowering cholesterol. Green tea is also good and easy to make. Also, drinking one to three ounces of wine each day can help to lower your risk of heart disease.

There are many foods that you will want to avoid altogether if you are trying to lower your cholesterol. Stay away from anything with a high fat content, that is the most general idea. Dairy products are often very high in fat. Try also not to eat too many processed meats and goods, such as hot dogs.

Of course, there are new scientific advances all the time that have new tips on how to lower cholesterol. The methods of changing your diet mentioned here are only a few of the known ways to make you more healthy.

Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans each year. With the spreading of knowledge on how to fight heart disease, hopefully that number will go down. There are simple things that a person can do each day to lower cholesterol and help their chances against heart disease. Of course, you will want to consult your doctor before beginning any sort of change in your lifestyle.
