Here are three things that will help you be able to have lucid dreams. Just keep in mind, these are not guaranteed to work for everyone.
Keep a dream journal.
This is probably the most important thing you can do. Anytime you have a dream and you wake up, immediately write what the dream is about inside the journal. Keep track of the journal over time and read over it. Maybe there's a pattern that you can focus on before falling asleep. Maybe it'll reveal something you didn't know before; regardless, the point of this is to tell your brain that you want to remember dreams. As this progresses, you'll find it easier to remember dreams after waking up and it may give you the ability to see your physical limits in your dreams.
Split Up Sleeping Times.
Sleep in intervals during the day. Find the time that is the easiest to remember your dream and have your sleeping schedule remain like that. By having more sleeping cycles, you'll be able to remember the dreams better. If you don't want to change your sleep schedule, you can also set the alarm to break up one sleeping cycle into multiples. For example, wake yourself at 3 am, 4 am and 5 am. Each time you wake up, make sure to write in your journal! After that, as you fall asleep again, make sure you're thinking about the dream you just had and slowly, you'll slip into another dream, hopefully, as a continuation. The important thing here is to constantly think about it; otherwise, it may not have the impact on the brain as you need to lucid dream.
Constantly Have Reality Checks.
This is something you can do while you're awake. You just need to get in a habit of checking whether or not this world is real. One of the most common things to do is to pinch yourself. If you're dreaming, this shouldn't hurt; if you aren't, well, it will. Other checks you can do is to check the time; if the time stays constant, you're probably dreaming (or really bored) or looking in a mirror, if it's blurry, you're probably dreaming. Remember, get in a habit of checking so it comes automatically whenever you're conscious. That way, if you're dreaming, you'll be able to know quickly.
Have fun being able to control your own world once you get the ability to control it!

Love math which probably lead to my interest in programming; later started the violin which lead to music which is starting to overpower the programming side. College now. Yay. View profile
