How to Have a Magical Winter Wonderland Themed Wedding on a Budget

Pam Parent
Having a winter wonderland-themed wedding is a fantasy wedding fit for a princess. The key to staying on budget is to purchase plain, undecorated items, then adding the magic and sparkle yourself. Purchasing items that have already been decorated such as the wedding isle runner, flowers or centerpieces, can sometimes cost twice as much. I have helped many brides that had a limited budget make their dream of having a winter-wonderland wedding come true. It just takes time and a little imagination.

Invitations

Make beautiful white and silver wedding invitations yourself. Start by cutting a piece of heavy card stock paper that is 12" in height and 7" wide. Fold paper in half. This is the template for the invitation. Print information on the invitations using a printer and computer. Glue a border of silver glitter around the front of each invitation. Stencil small snowflakes sporadically on the front and back of the invitation. Color the snowflakes in with a silver glitter pen.

Wedding Isle Runner

Purchase a plain white wedding isle runner. Roll the isle runner out in a large, well ventilated room. Working a section at a time, spray fabric adhesive glue on the runner, then sprinkle silver glitter. Continue this step until the entire wedding isle runner is sparkled. Let dry completely. Another option is to find some discount metallic silver ribbon, and glue it to each side of the wedding runner with fabric glue.

Wedding Attire

Bride - A great dress choice for the bride planning a winter wonderland-themed wedding would be a heavily embellished strapless wedding dress with a ballgown skirt. Add a matching shawl or jacket for warmth. Many bridal stores want to make room for the latest wedding gown designs. The bridal store will often make a great deal with the bride on a dress from last season. The best option is for the bride to wear their mother's wedding dress, which can be altered and redesigned to fit the winter wonderland theme of the wedding.

Bridesmaid - The bridesmaids should wear silver gowns with a little spark. Choose a bridesmaid dress that has a jacket or shawl to keep them warm during the bride's winter wonderland wedding. The same rule applies when looking for bridesmaid dresses. Choosing a design from last season can save a lot of money.

Groom and Groomsmen - Rent black tuxedos with tails. Choose a silver bow tie and cummerbund.

Wedding Flowers

Carnations are an inexpensive flower, and a great choice when on a budget. Spray each carnation with adhesive glue, then dip the carnation in a bowl of silver glitter. Tie the bouquet of sparkled carnations together with a silver metallic ribbon to form the bridal bouquet. This makes a stunning bridal bouquet for a winter wonderland wedding. Make a smaller bouquet for the bridesmaids, and also use the carnations for boutonnieres.

Bridal Hair Accessories

The bride would look lovely with a tiara instead of the traditional veil. Purchase inexpensive silver combs for the bridesmaids. Glue rhinestones along each edge of the combs. These decorated combs will add sparkle to the bridesmaid's hairstyle, while keeping on budget.

Wedding Table Centerpieces

Gather a large quantity of 8" to 10" twigs. Spray paint them white, then heavily sprinkle them with silver glitter. Place the sparkled twigs in a large vase. Place a centerpiece on each wedding table. Hang faux icicles off the branches. These make an inexpensive stunning centerpieces for a winter-wonderland themed wedding, and are budget-friendly.

Wedding Cake

A wedding cake can be quite expensive. The ideal choice would be to make the wedding cake, or have someone help you make the cake. If this isn't possible, have someone bake the wedding cake, and only add a few white roses for the decorations. Decorating most of the cake yourself will save a lot of money. Sprinkle the cake with edible silver glitter. Add some of the glitter carnations to the top of the cake. Wrap metallic silver ribbon around the edge of each layer of the wedding cake for extra dazzle.

Wedding Food

A wedding buffet is a great choice, and is budget-friendly. Decorate the buffet table with a branch centerpiece, and use fancy dishes and plates to add elegance. Borrow the dishes and serving plates from family and friends. Decorate the tablecloths with glitter. These tips can help keep the bride on budget.
