Newsbreak. Take a break from watching the news for a day. It seems that news stations focus on the negative and sensationalized aspects of life. We all need a respite from hearing about crime, racism, celebrity who cares who got their hair shaved, lawsuits, recalls, etc. Enough of this can be frustrating and disheartening. Hearing too much of this can put a real damper on one's psyche. Instead, find a good news station - at least for a simple day.
Day trip. Take a day trip for a temporary respite. Go someplace a short driving distance away from your home. New scenery has a tendency to rejuvenate the soul. Try it. Day trips are great for maintaining sanity.
Modern technology. Set one day (at least) aside to escape from our digital world. Take a short break from emails, cell phones, and Blackberries. Many times these devices provide frustration and stress. Take a break from continuous invasions upon your time and privacy. You may be amazed at how easy it is.
Volunteer. Find a subject or cause that you are passionate about. Then, offer your services on a volunteer basis. This is a great way to have a positive effect. By getting "outside of yourself" you can see how others benefit from your actions. It gives you time to think about something other than your own small world. The person or group you are helping will be pleased you care. And, you will feel good.
Volunteering is a win-win situation in combating a negative and insane world. It can touched untapped sources of goodness and has a tendency to bring out the kindness in all that are involved.
Laugh. Do whatever it takes for you to laugh. Even though chuckles are good, I am talking about a good, old-fashioned belly laugh. This is the type of laughter that will have you holding your gut while you feel your innards shake. Some may find laughter in a slapstick comedy; others may find it in everyday existence. Whatever it is to have you laughing so hard you cry, do it. There is a reason that the saying "laughter is the best medicine" has been around for ages. It is tried and true. Laughter has a way of making you feel better while also giving you a new perspective.
By partaking in any of the above-mentioned activities, you are bound to maintain your sanity while facing our troubling, insane world.
