How to Making a Summoning Tank in Runescape

Lewis Danks
My suggestion for creating your tank is to NOT use a name with "mino" or "sum" or anything like that. In my opinion, it's just gay, it also tips off your targets that you are a tank. If you have a skiller that has no combat levels, I'd start off with him. You are going to need some skills and starting money anyway.

To begin with summoning, you are going to need to complete the quest "Wolf Whistle".

You can start and finish that here:

After you complete that, you will have 275 gold charms, and 4 summoning.

DO NOT USE THE CHARMS YET!!!! I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH.

Now, you need to do the safety stronghold near barbarian village(you can do security one too, but that is for money only.) Use both of the lamps on summoning, and you will be level 10.

Next is a very annoying, but easy quest: "Myths of the White Lands".

Your summoning is now 12.

Now is the time for money, you can completely skip this part if this was previously a skiller, or had money on it. You can bot this part or do it legitly. I strongly suggest doing it legitly.

There are 3 main ways I suggest making money on your tank.

1. Great Orb Project- ~300k/hr(50 runecrafting req)
2. Egg Spawn Scrolls ~240k/hr+100 summoning experience
3. Cutting yew trees(60 woodcutting req)

Do these, or any other money making way you know, until you have 5M to play with.

The next part I give full credit to Minotitan for. He figured these numbers out.

Using Charms

Buy the following items from the Grand Exchange:
77 Spider Carcasses
18 Iron Ore
180 Proboscis(these may take a while to sell)
922 shards
275 blank pouches
15 falador teleports

Level 12-16, make spirit spiders. Level 16-17, make granite crabs. Level 17-28 make spirit misquitoes.

Though they are expensive, make spirit misquitoes if you wish to not waste your time with granite crabs.

More Quests

Another quest: Swept Away.
This is a very simple quest, and has a reward equivelant to 10 genie experience lamps.

Start by speaking to Maggie, she is near the Legend's Guild.

Use all of the goulash on summoning, you will now be 30.

Complete the Fremminek Easy Diary. I couldn't find a picture of the start point, but it is near the bridge leading from the Camelot area to the Fremminek area.
When you need to fight the cave crawler, use a super antipoison, recoils, and a poisoned dagger.

Same thing for the unicorn.

You will need 10 slayer to do this, go under the Varrock Museum and complete the quiz challenge to earn 9 slayer and hunting.
Use the lamp on summoning and you will be 33.

The Road Gets Tougher

Now that you've exhausted your supply of charms, it gets harder.

It's time to learn how to do penguins. This is very useful in leveling summoning until you are a higher level.
You need to come here, the ardougne zoo. SPeak to Larry and talk about distractions and diversions.

Penguins are found all over RS, join "world60pengs" to find locations.

You usually find 7 penguins a week as a tank. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

Each penguin gives 25x your level in experience. If you get 7 penguins and trade them in at 33, you will have 35 summoning. Do this every week, it resets on wednesday.

Defence time.

Now you need defence and hitpoints, I suggest 45 defence and 40 hitpoints. Yes the hitpoints are high, but you will be safer from low level dbowers and mages. You will eventually get up anyway.

Now there are some quests you need to do.(ugh )

Itchlarin's little helper- 5k experience lamp, use on summon and you will be 37.
One small favour- 2 10k experience lamps, use on summon and you will be 42. :O!!!!

One small favour can be a particularly frustrating boss fight. You will NOT hit him, but he will be poisoned. Time how long it takes to be poisoned, if it's not before 45 seconds leave the room! It will just waste 5 minutes of your time.

Itchlarin's little helper is easy, but can get annoying. No tips for that.

Well, now here is the lootsharing and charm usage tips!!

Levels after 42

Well, this guide should have taken you less than a week so far. Summon tanking is easy right?

Of course not.

If you can't stand an account taking more than 7 months, turn away now.

This monster right here ^ is the rock lobster. It will be your BEST FRIEND.
You get around 150 crimson, 60 gold, 40 green, and 12 blue from this monster per 1k bursts. This is so expensive that most people cannot do it. Buuuuuuut as this is a botting community I'm sure you can come up with the cash.

Watch this in order to get there, do the same thing but have your tank by the ladder. Make sure to turn Coinshare OFF. I don't know how, but this increases charms split.

That is one way to get charms. I suggest only doing this if you have a fast computer, slow computers you will lag out and DIE.

This monster ^ is a Giant Rock Crab. It is a little cheaper to kill as you can melee it or use much cheaper spells on modern to kill it. Put your tank in a safe spot and mage them, they will run away so chase them.

Another way to kill Giant Rock Crabs is scrolling with your familiars. ONLY DO THIS AT 56 SUMMONING AND ABOVE!! Anything below a Steel Minotaur is useless on these. I strongly suggest 66 summoning though.

Scrolling with the spirit cobara(63 summoning) is a great way to get cash and experience. It is about 6.5k exp/hr and roughly 700k cash per hour.

Making pouches into scroll is effective and consistant, but it costs a hell of a lot of money. I don't suggest using this, but if you do make blue charm pouches into scrolls.

Charm Usage
There are more charms than these, but these are pretty much the only ones that tanks will get. Some of the more advanced ones will be able to get talon beast charms.

When you use your lootshared charms, use in this order:

Gold
Green
Crimson
Blue

Gold charms: I suggest saving ALL of your golds until 52 summoning. If you want super exp with them save until 66. I suggest 52 though. It is hard to do, but it's worth it.

Make the best pouches you can for that charm. Use calculators to determine how many of what pouch you have to make. For example, don't make 10,000 terrorbirds, make those until 66 and use the leftover on barker toads.

Obelisks

In order to make your pouches, you are going to need an obelisk. The route I suggest is to use the kyatt to castlewars method, but you need 57 summoning for that. I have come up with a solution.

Get your tank to 10 construction, and put your house in taverly. Buy house teleports and rings of duelling. Tele to your house and run to the obelisk, make the pouches, and tele to castle wars. Rinse and repeat.

PvP

The moment we have all been waiting for, tanking in PvP. There is a requirement of 20 combat w/o summon for PvP. There are also a few forms of tanks that I will talk about.

High Defence High Summon- These are the tanks that I prefer, as we can use DFS and wear armour such as Bandos and Barrows.(3a in my case now ) For 70 Defence I reccomend 56+ summoning, for 75 66+, and for 80+ get 76+ summoning. These tanks are relatively easy to pk on, but the downfall is dbowers. They hit a minimum of 16 each, that means if they have 4, you're dead. Watch "Maxed at 62" videos on youtube to get a hang of pking as a summon tank.

Low Defence High Summon- Ever wanted to completely demolish your target without even needing to eat? Then this is the tank for you. My best friend is one of these. He has 45 Defence and 86 summoning. He 1 hits his targets. I would suggest this to the people that don't want to worry about Ibaners and Dbowers, and love to make money without any effort at all. Follow the same guide, but it will be a little harder to make it to rock lobsters.

Hitpoints- This is a big issue for tanks as they have no clue what hitpoints to get. Here is a table of the hitpoints you will want.

High Def- 60------70------75------80------85
Hitpoints-45------50------60------65------75

Low Def-40------45------50
Hitpoints-40------40------45
