How to Manage Your Diet and Not Gain Weight During a Vacation

Marki E.
When you take a vacation, you are going there to enjoy yourself: to relax, to have the fun you can not have in the office, and to spend some time with yourself or with the family. As you enjoy your good self, remember that you do not over-indulge in the gastronomic delights.

As you go out on a day's trip you may start off with some breakfast at the hotel or lodge. Do not make the breakfast too heavy. Keep it light, but healthy. Stroll around the down and catch a few sights. When you feel puckish turn to a sidewalk café or a street vendor and pick a snack. Again, keep it light.

Do not restrict yourself as if you are in prison. If you get an urge to sit at a restaurant and fill yourself up with a large meal followed by a large sweet, do so. Remember that you are out to have some fun, so have some fun. Do not turn guilty because you have over-indulged.

If you feel that your calorie intake was excessive, take a walk or go for a swim.

You can also control your diet by taking light meals with you when leaving the hotel. You can ask the hotel to prepare you a meal or two for the day. Make sure that you include a lot of fruit and fewer sweets.

You may also want to go for longish walks that are in areas without food outlets. While you may take a light meal and some water, you will not be able to eat much but you will get a lot of exercise, which will burn any extra calories you may have picked up.

Avoid staying in. Remember that you are on vacation. Go out during the day. In the evening find out if there are any activities, like discos that you can go to. Dance the night away and don't fee too self-conscious. If the dance is enjoyable, do enjoy.

If safe, you can also take evening or early night strolls around the town.

You may also want to prepare a meal and activity schedule. For each meal, you include an activity for it. You may want to take a bike-ride after eating ice-cream or go jogging after eating a double-cheese hamburger. Whenever takes you fancy, plan for it and use it to counter any weight gain.

Do not let yourself be stressed out by food or let food rule your actions. Eat the food when you are hungry; don't just eat because the food is there.

One of the most important things to remember is: in all things do with moderation. This will guide you in your dieting more than watching the calories.
