How to Manage Multiple Twitter Accounts in HootSuite

Streamline Your Tweets

Jillian McCoy
Do you have multiple Twitter accounts? Want to be able to post or see tweets from all of them at the same time? Thanks to 3rd party Twitter client HootSuite, you can manage them all at once. Unfortunately, the instructions on how to manage multiple Twitter accounts in HootSuite on their website are outdated. If you're at your wits' end and need to get your Twitter accounts linked, help is just a few simple steps away.

Log in to your HootSuite account, and you'll immediately be taken to the "Dashboard". Under your columns is a row of buttons - these read "Streams", "Stats", "Settings" and "People". Click "Settings" to open a new menu.

By default, you should be on the "Social Networks" tab in this menu - if you're not, click on it to switch tabs. Above the listing for your Twitter account associated with HootSuite, you should see a button marked "Add Social Network". A box will pop up, giving you the option to put in your login details for several different social networking sites such as Foursquare and Facebook. Twitter is listed at the top, and should be selected by default.

Enter the login information for your addiional Twitter account, then click "Submit". Repeat process until all Twitter accounts are added to your HootSuite account. If any of your additional Twitter accounts are currently associated with other HootSuite accounts, you'll be unable to add them. To fix this, you'll need to exit your main HootSuite account and log into any others to delete them. Once all Twitter accounts are merged, you'll be able to see information from all of them. Not only will you be able to monitor the tweets of the people you follow, you'll also be able to see your mentions (@ replies) and Dms.

Having multiple Twitter accounts enabled in HootSuite will allow you to do a number of things. You'll be able to compose and send tweets from any (or all) of the linked accounts simply by clicking on the avatar thumbnail next to the tweet field on your dashboard. Any account that will be sending the tweet will have a check mark visible over the thumbnail. One of HootSuite's most helpful features is the ability to schedule tweets in advance. This too can be done from any combination of the Twitter accounts linked together on HootSuite. Being able to link and schedule tweets can help you keep all your followers engaged across Twitter accounts, both personal and professional alike.

I had a confusing time trying to figure out how to manage multiple Twitter accounts on HootSuite. Hope this tutorial helped save you some time!

Thanks so much for that! I can't believe it took me this much web-crawling to find the answer. Hootsuite is still my fave client, but their approach to support is unfortunately rather inconsistent. Cheers!

Very helpful. HootSuite isn't the easiest thing to navigate, but it's really useful once you know how.
