How to Manually Program Your Verizon Motorola Android Phone

Kat Sanchez
If you already use Verizon Wireless's service and have ever ordered a new phone, you know that you have to go through certain steps to activate it. If you are upgrading from an existing phone, you will simply dial *228 from your new phone and choose option number 3. This changes over the ESN, or electronic serial number in the Verizon system, updates your phone to pick up any cell towers that were build since the last time you updated your preferred roaming list (which you should do every 3 months by dialing *228 option 2), and programing the phone itself. If this is the first phone you have put on that particular line, you can dial *228 and choose option 1. Most of the time these programing steps only take a moment, and you don't even have to call into customer service to activate the device. Sometimes, however, the over the air programing fails, and you will have to type in a sequence of numbers to manually program it. If you are trying to dial *228 options one or three and you get an error message, try the following steps:

-With the slide closed, tap the Phone Icon and dial ##7764726 then tap phone icon

-SPC Password is 000000 and tap verify

-select User Activation

-Tap MIN Box and delete existing info and add your MIN *

-Enter MDN as well

-Find SID # and input it here **

-Press Done to save info an return to user activation and then press Home key and phone should reset after programming

* Your MIN or Mobile Identification Number is usually the same as your MDN, or Mobile Directory Number. If these number don't auto-populate on your screen during programing, you can find them by going to your menu, then Settings and Tools, then phone number. Look under "SW/HW Version" and "My Number". You can also find your MEID, or Mobile ID, which you may need in the future for changing phones or updating software.

** The SID # will auto-populate.

After the programming is complete, make an outbound test call by dialing #832. You should also use another phone to make an inbound test call. If the calls fail, try *228 option 1 before repeating manually programing. Hope this helps!
