How to Manually Turn System Restore Off and on for Windows

A Guide to Disable and Enable System Restore

System Restore is a Windows feature that allows for hard drive recovery. However, there may be times when you need to turn off System Restore, as when you need to uninstall Spyware or other malicious programs. Whatever the reason, keep in mind that by turning off system Restore, you will delete all your existing restore points, and won't be able to undo or track changes on your PC. If you need to turn it off and on, read on to learn how to manually turn off or turn on System Restore.

How to Turn off System Restore
Step1

Click on your START button, located in the bottom left hand corner of your desk top. Right-click on MY COMOUTER, and then click on PROPERTIES.

Step2
Click on the SYSTEM RESTORE tab in the SYSTEM PROPERTIES dialog box.

Step3
Click on the check box select the "Turn off System Restore." (Or, click on the check box next to "Turn off System Restore on all drives.") Click on APPLY.

Step4
Click Yes when prompted, to confirm that you want to turn off System Restore.

How to Turn System Restore Back On
Step1
Click on your START button, located in the bottom left hand corner of your desk top. Right-click on MY COMPUTER, and then click on PROPERTIES.

Step2
Click on the SYSTEM RESTORE tab in the SYSTEM PROPERTIES dialog box.

Step3
Click on the checkbox next to "Turn off System Restore" to clear the check box. (Or click on the check box next to "Turn off System Restore on all drives.")

Step4
Click OK. The "System Properties" dialog box will close and you'll have "System Restore" turned back on.

WARNING
By turning off system Restore , you will delete all your existing restore points, and won't be able to undo or track changes on your PC.
