How to Make a Mardi Gras Jester Hat

You Will Only Need Three Items to Craft This Hat and Be the Life of the Mardi Gras Parties You Attend

Mardi Gras is one of my favorite holidays. There is no real expense involved and everyone gets to enjoy themselves being silly and carrying on. It's the perfect holiday to dress up a bit and go out with friends for parties and festivities. If you are looking for a way to stand out at a Mardi Gras celebration, creating your own jester hat might be just the perfect idea.

One of the best parts about making this Mardi Gras jester cap is how little expense is involved. You'll only need three items to make this hat. You will first need to purchase some colored felt paper. You will want to purchase traditional Mardi Gras colors for your hat so stick with purple, green, and gold. I would suggest buying two sheets of each color for each hat you intend to make. Felt paper is very inexpensive and can be used for other craft projects, so do not hesitate to purchase a full pack if the store you visit sells it in quantity.

The next two items that you need might already be in your house. To put together your Mardi Gras jester hat, you will need scissors and some good glue. If you do not have glue, you can substitute two sided tape. You could also sew the felt paper with a needle and thread but you will find that glue works the best for this craft project.

Lay out your felt paper pieces on a wide table. Separate them by color and stack the papers. For each Mardi Gras jester hat that you are going to create, you will want to cut out three large triangles of felt paper. Each hat will require one triangle of each of the three Mardi Gras colors. You will also want to cut a piece of felt paper in a long rectangle that is approximately one inch longer than the circumference of your head. You will also want to cut out three small quarter size circles of felt for each hat.

Lay your rectangle flat on the table. Space the triangles appropriately along the rectangle and glue the wide end to the rectangle on each. After the triangles are properly adhered to the rectangle, flip the whole thing over. Now, glue the small circles that you cut on to tips of the triangles. Let the circles dry until they are secure. All that is left to do now is to glue one end of the rectangle over the other end. Let the hat dry until it is completely attached. Flip it onto your head and you are now the most styling homemade Mardi Gras jester at any party you attend.
