A very important part of the marriage process is the legality of it. There is not just a wedding and reception to consider, you must also obtain the marriage license in order to make it official. Iredell County is one of he easiest places to obtain a marriage license, as they no longer require a premarital physical. This information I compiled was valid as of September 2008, and is subject to change. Please check the following website for changes prior to getting married in Iredell County:

Iredell County includes Statesville, Troutman, Mooresville, Harmony, Union Grove and Love Valley. Once you receive your marriage license application, you can get married in any county in North Carolina that you choose. You must, however, return the marriage license to the county that issued it in order to file it. For example, if you obtain the license in Iredell County, but get married in Mecklenburg County, you must return to Iredell County to process the license. The bride and groom must both be present. If you are getting married outside of North Carolina, check with the city where you wish to get married for their procedures.
You can call the office directly at (704) 872-7468. They are open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, excluding Holidays. Please allow 20-30 minutes to process your paperwork.

Be prepared to have a valid photo ID and social security card for the bride and groom.If you do not have a social security number, then you must complete an affadavit prior to getting a marriage license. Acceptable forms of ID are a state issued driver's license, state issued ID, passport, or military ID. If you are under 21, please check the Iredell County website for any additional requirements.

You will be required to apply for your marriage license before you have the actual ceremony. Once issued, the license will be valid for only 60 days. There is no waiting period, and the license is valid as soon as it is issued. When you visit the Register of Deeds office, you will need $50.00 cash or money order only for your license. If you need certified copies after the license is processed, there is a $10.00 charge. If you are not having a ceremony, and would like to have a city official marry you, a Magistrate is available for $20.00. You are also responsible for bring your own witnesses.
