How to Make Mashed Potatoes

Margie Lynn

Who doesn't love Mashed Potatoes. I am on duty to make a big bowl for the Thanksgiving Meal. There seem to never be any leftover. They are very inexpensive to make, you just need a bag of potatoes, lots of butter, milk, salt and pepper. There are many add in you can use if you desire, such as bacon, garlic, cheddar cheese, cream cheese and many others. Mashed Potatoes go with just about any meal and are quick and easy to make.

Ingredients needed for Mashed Potatoes:
7 to 8 medium size russet potatoes, cut into quarters
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup butter
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions for making Mashed Potatoes:
Step 1: Place potato quarters and enough water to cover in large pot.
Step 2: Bring to a boil.
Step 3: Reduce heat to medium and cook for approximately 15 to 20 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
Step 4: Drain potatoes well.
Step 5: Place potatoes back in pot and add milk, butter, salt and pepper. You may need to add more milk.
Step 6: Mash using hand-held masher until smooth. You can also use a hand-held electric mixer for creamier potatoes.
This recipes serves 6-8.

Tips:
Sometimes I use extra milk and butter, just to my taste, but this is a guideline.
Add ins such as cream cheese, smoky Gouda cheese, garlic, bacon, chives, scallions, jalapeƱos, chorizo, horseradish, pancetta and the list goes on.
Top with white or brown gravy, very delicious!
