How to Master Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Situations in Modern Warfare 2

Brandon Miller
I have to admit that I am a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 addict. Personally, I love playing the role as a sniper (me and my Intervention are the best of friends). Unfortunately, some of the maps are full of tight spaces and few open areas. For this reason, I am forced to change my playing strategy to adapt to close quarter battle (CQB) arenas. Here are some tips to help you handle any close quarter situation.

Choose the Right Primary Weapon

Ok, at this point, you can completely forget about sniper rifles and light machineguns. You wont have the range for the sniper rifles and light machineguns are too bulky for tight battle situations. So, you are left with assault rifles and submachine guns. Personally, I prefer the P90 or UMP45.

Select a Strong Secondary Weapon

Face it, 90 percent of the time in a normal MW2 multiplayer match, you use your primary weapon. Think about it, how many times do you actually find yourself in a situation where it is more beneficial to switch over to your sidearm? Not very many. The reason being that most of the secondary weapons are powerful but have an extremely short range. Fortunately, shotguns and a handgun with the tactical knife attachment will come in hand in close quarter situations.

The Perks make all the Difference

If you choose the right perks, you can give yourself a significant advantage in the close quarter battlefield. Here are the perks that I recommend for each slot.

Perk Slot 1: On this one, I am torn between Marathon and Slight of Hand. If you plan to use your combat knife a lot you will want to select Marathon so that you can charge multiple enemies without running low on energy. Since shotguns take forever to load, Slight of Hand will reduce your downtime when you are out of ammo.

Perk Slot 2: I choose Lightweight for this slot hands down. To dominate close quarter situations, you need to be able to move quickly from room to room. If you are having trouble getting kill shots, you might opt for Stopping Power

Perk Slot 3: Commando wins this slot easy. Your combat knife is the only weapon in the game that you cannot survive a strike from. Why not increase the range and speed of your melee strike?

Learn to Make the Most of your Combat Knife

Your greatest weapon in close combat situations will be your knife. This may sound crazy, but when your enemies are close, it is always your fastest and deadliest option. To make the most of your knife, unlock and equip the tactical knife attachment for your handgun. This will nearly double the speed of your knife melee. With a good combination of the Commando and Lightweight perks, you will enhance your edge even more. You can use the knife both offensively and defensively. If you are quick, you can easily charge an enemy and kill them before they can even get a shot off. On the other hand, you can defend an area by hiding around a corner or directly inside a doorway. From here you can quickly stab your opponents round the corner or enter the doorway.More from Associated Content:
