Mathematics may sometimes be very tedious for those who haven't mastered the art of solving math problems. On the other hand, there are also people who seem to easily understand the course. These are the people who can go through indecipherable mathematical equations and problems without breaking any sweat at all that you can only begin to wonder how these guys do math with flying colors.

In science and engineering mathematics, it's way difficult than the usual mathematics taught in high school. However, there are certain definite rules when studying math and it is necessary for you to know and master these rules in order for you to make math as easy and as enjoyable as it should be.

Here are the following rules to master the art of studying mathematics.

1. Master the basics. It is not enough that you know the basics. It is fully important that you have mastered them. So, master the basic arithmetic as well as weights and measures. It is also good that you learn how to use a calculator and some of the software that may used in solving some problems. Master how to talk and think in math. Master the use of rules and patterns in how to get to the conclusions. Mathematics is a subject dependent on our abilities to talk about numbers and measurements, to describe the calculations and to follow and understand the rules and patterns.

2. Do not depend on memorization. Mathematics is not a subject on memorization. It is something that needs to be analyzed. Mathematical problems cannot be solved on memorization alone. Memorization may be used on the formulas for the problems. But if you do not know how to use the formulas, then the formulas are of no use. It is best that you know how to use and solve the problem.

3. Be focused. Math is an analytical and an abstract subject that needs sustained focus. Concentrate when you are studying math. There are higher chances that you learn faster if your mind is on the problem itself rather than on the notion of how difficult the problem is.

4. Try considering the subject like a foreign language. Mathematics is like a foreign language. Learning how to speak in math may give you a boost in easily understanding the subject.

5. Always ask questions. If there is something that you do not understand, then ask questions from your teacher. Do not procrastinate. It is best that you ask the question during the day of discussion. Do not put it to later. The tendency is you often forget it.

6. Study math according to your own learning style. All of us have our very own learning style. Whether you are a visual learner or an auditory learner, you can develop your own and personal technique in studying math. Do you understand best when studying math with visual aids? Do you work with those mathematical equations better when in the privacy of your own home or with a group? These are some questions to ask when considering your very own learning style.

7. Relate what you have learned in the real world. Contrary to what you might think, mathematics is a very important subject. Learn to relate what you have learned in the outside world. All of the formulas being discussed are relevant to the outside world. Ask your teacher how it can be applied.

8. Be patient. Mathematics entail specific skills that can only be acquired through mastery and patience. Your patience will come a long way together with perseverance tagged with it.

9. Practice makes perfect. Practice. Practice. Practice. Mathematics will come a lot easier if you practice a lot. Once you master it, you will do the math with flying colors.

10.Reward yourself for job well done. After a long day's work with studying math, reward yourself for your efforts. And once again, math is not that difficult. You just got to master the art of studying math.
