How to Maximize an Article's Performance by Adding Related Links

Linking: Another Tip to Help Content Writers with Page Views

By now, most web content writers know the importance of keyword density, topic popularity, long-term relevance and other factors to improve their content's long-term, overall performance. Another way to increase the content's readability is by linking like articles. Depending on the content site writing for, and the number of existing related articles, there are two main ways to successfully link related content.

The first way to link content is to investigate how many content links are allowed. AC, for example allows three; while eHow allows five. This related content area allows the author to showcase his or her work while already catching the attention of the reader on his/her page. To best maximize this option, when writing a new article, create as many related articles similar to that topic and use them as separate articles. For example, if writing about picnic tables some possible linkable topics would be the construction and design of picnic tables, picnic table care and maintenance, uses for a picnic table beyond serving food, how to select your next picnic table, and picnic table assembly. Choosing as many related article topics allows authors to write more in-depth article topics as well as creating related, linkable content.

If content already exists, consider looking through past content to create new articles. Examine all content carefully and see how new content can be created to serve as a link between two or more pieces. A great example is a holiday gift giving article combined with online shopping topics to create a new article,

Online Retailers' Holiday Return Policies, which can include the previous articles in the links or suggested resources section for a total of three articles. Instead of exposing a reader to just one article, three of your articles now have the opportunity to be viewed by each page visitor. While not every reader does click on the links / resources section, the opportunity is there to gain more exposure and make more money.

In the end, when choosing to link content, make sure it is relevant and appeals to readers. If content is not available to fill every link, don't worry. Over time, new content is added and the previously published articles can serve as a guide to help authors expand ideas into new titles. In addition to making sure the content is relevant, also ensure content is "green" and will appeal to readers throughout the life of your article.
