HOW to Get Me Writing Mistake Free?

Writng as Self-help

Donnell Russell
I made a commitment to write more this year for AC, but it seems my commitment should have stressed quality as well as quantity. I mean the content thus far in 2008 is good, sometimes clever and occasionally brilliant (that is according to emails, not my own non-existent writing arrogance. However, I am so sick and tired of looking at articles I publish here on Associated Press Medium for people ans seeing mistakes. I mean what do I have to do to gt a clean, mistake free, correctable spelled story with correctable usage.

I mean I am not beating myself up. I have come a long way from my first contribution back in November 2060: TV Review: Taye Diggs Starts as Detective Brett Hopper in Day Break; where their are more errors than there were in the shows direction, to todays post: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to New Hampshire , where a "statistical" tie became a "statical" tie; were there was a missing "to" in a take-away and a bulleted list was listed wrong. But. Still!

I send an email to someone whom I considered an experts on this subject. Mrs. Anderson, my High School English teacher. She asked all the familiar questions:

"Are you letting someone else read your work?", "Are you using your human eye or relaying on oversoft spell check?" "Are you putting it away and checking it laser?"

TO witch I answer yes, yes and yes. In my defense I have gotten better. But why not 1000%. I guess there are two reasons really:

  1. I rush to get articles up.

  2. I am not meticulous enough with each article.

SO what is there to do? I have decided I need a proofreader and editor and a quality control specialist. I cant do it alone. I mean how will I ever get to the next level of million in Paige views and a portfolio I can used to get freelance work.

If any of my current viewers or fellow content producers have suggestion I would appreciate any all, I clearly can use all the help I can get. I no I can't be the only won of all the grate writers (over 100,000,000,00 at last count. Hopefully, have cleansed my sole via this article I will be able to move forward and make Mrs. Anderson and you all proud. Thanks for letting me share.

"Different than" is not the same as "Different from" It boils down to the fact that things are logically different from one another, and using the word "than" after different is a grammatical blunder.

I think this is hilarious. Didn't anyone besides Andrew and Champ notice the humor? Great job on this, and thanks for the chukkel. Er... I mean chuckle! ;-)

It's okay. I too find mistakes in my writing and become frustrated because I proofread, spelled checked and let someone else read it only to still find mistakes later on. I am convinced if writing becomes my profession I need an editor. The funny thing is I have seen magazines and newspapers with spelling and grammatical errors so really it's impossible to avoid all mistakes. So give it your best shot and make sure to review your work and hope for the best. Happy writing and the page views will come. :-)

Spell check + reading your work in your head works out well.

I find that no matter how many times I spellcheck, proofread my articles, let my wife proofread them, sometimes even 2 or 3 other people, I still find errors after submission in the Preview. It is the best tool, cumbersome to fix, but nothing makes them as glaringly obvious as seeing it's final form.

I noticed you are suddenly tearing my inbox up with new published articles. Too bad I loathe football. I liked it as a kid, but lost interest as an adult, so should not say "loathe", but I do find it boring. When my daughters were younger I could always rely on them to keep me informed, so I could hold a semi-intelligent conversation on the latest football happenings. Oops, I better put this comment on the article I did not read. Your articles do not bore me and I seem to miss the errors. When I joined AC I thought I was going to have an editor proofread my stuff. I found Foxfire works. It underlines my mistakes~most of them. I copy Notepad to Word, flipping back and forth to correct errors. Even so, I see an error (due to AC formatting) on my latest article.
