How to Meet Celebrities

It's fun to meet celebrities. You can get their autographs, get your picture taken with them, and maybe even share a short conversation.

Of course, stalking them is bad. It scares the heck out of them and and cause legal issues for you.

If you would like to meet celebrities, though, there are many ways to do so. The best ways? Look for opportunities the celebrities, themselves, participate in.

Halls of Fame. I've attended the International Boxing Hall of Fame induction weekends for many years now. Every June around Father's day, I meet current and former boxing greats. I'm able to shake their hands, interview them for freelance articles I've landed and get my picture taken with them. In a couple cases, I've even received their business cards and have been invited to call or visit them for additional interviews. Who have I met during these induction weekends? Muhammad Ali, Don King, Gerry Cooney, Leon Spinks, Alexis Arguello and more. Attending the induction ceremonies at other Halls of Fame gives you pretty good access to meet celebrities, too. Whether football, baseball or even Rock 'n' Roll, the induction weekends are designed to give regular folks the opportunity to rub shoulders and meet celebrities.

Charities. Many celebrities are heavily involved in charities. Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters, for instance, help pets get adopted. Regular folks can meet celebrities and have short talks with them during charities.

Contests. There are tons of contests you can enter to meet (or spend a day with, or have a date with, etc.) a celebrity. Check out your favorite celebrities' websites to see if they're involved in a contest. While your odds of winning go down as the number of entries go up, you can't win if you don't play.

After shows. Many actors and musicians are happy to meet and greet their fans after their shows. Garth Brooks, for instance, once spent nearly 24 hours after a show talking with fans and posing for pictures. Some Broadway stars will stay after shows (albeit for much less than 24 hrs) to chat fans up. Many athletes will also spend time after their games or matches to sign autographs and meet their fans.
