How to Meet People with Similar Interests in Your Area with Meetup

A Beneficial Networking Website for All Kinds of Activities and Interests

LIVIN
The internet has facilitated the process of meeting people. Match.com, eHarmony, craigslist and other dating sites have ameliorated the process of finding suitable partners for relationships. However, what if you're not looking for that kind of relationship? Got activities or interests that you seek to share with others? Want to meet people with similar interests? Desire to try new, and perhaps unusual, activities? Want to expand your circle of friends and/or acquaintances? How about finding business partners?

Match.com, eHarmony, craigslist and other sites have their benefits, but they may not be targeted at your specific needs. Meetup.com allows search for group Meetups by various methods. The website uses search by city and/or topic. Additionally, searches can be honed to specific locations. Also, it's free! Unlike some sites that require you to pay, Meetup is an absolutely free way to meet people with similar interests.

Want to search for groups with political activities related to Barack Obama? Have at it. Are you looking for other video game players in your area? You can do that to. Meetup.com also contains a functionality that allows searches according to "What is Happening This Week?" The free website for meeting people with similar interests also lists the newest and largest Meetup groups. "The Oklahoma City Ron Paul Meetup Group" contains 270 Ron Paul supporters. There are over 3,650 Meetup groups within 25 miles of New York City, New York.

Meetup.com also spans the globe. There are presently almost 100 Meetup groups located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The website can be used to meet people with similar interests in London, Paris, Rome, Italy, Venice, Cairo and Moscow. "The Moscow Mommy Milk Meetup Group" contains 141 breastfeeding moms, presently.

The internet site is quite intuitive and well laid out. The ability to browse and search makes for easy internet navigation. It makes meeting people with similar interests a snap. You can join Meetup groups, RSVP to activity meetings, edit email options and even send messages to the members of your groups. I have one gripe with the email options. I prefer to view all my info on the website. However, I still receive emails at times. I'm new to the site, so maybe there is a way to fix that, but I haven't figured it out yet.

Upon joining a group, other capabilities are enabled. Groups allow file and photo uploading and sharing, polls, and other networking tools. There's also a calendar to keep track of it all. When you visit your main page, all your upcoming activities are easily viewable along the right hand side of the screen. Also, the site lists your current RSVP status for each group activity and Meetup.I'm glad I found the free activity site for meeting people with similar interests, hobbies and jobs. I've already met people I previously had trouble finding. It is possible to encounter people you clash with. However, overall, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Plus, it's free!
