How Men Can Detect Online Dating Scams

Chapati
Many unsuspecting men have been scammed by cyber scammers. These scammers do not care about their victims feelings at all. They always say "scamming people is a dirty job but somebody's got to do it".

Here are some tips to help you detect an online date scam:

1) These scammers will never agree to have a webcam chat with you because the picture of the beautiful girl you see online is actually a man. He is impersonating a female with a picture he downloaded from the internet, hence he would never agree to a web cam chat with you. If the girl you meet online is always giving you excuses why she is unable to chat with you with a web cam. Don't bother to continue the relationship; it is a scam. Her sending you pictures is not 100% reliable, because they could pay a girl to agree to have her pictures taken.

2) They will always tell you what you want to hear. The strategy is to get you to trust them and once they have achieved their aim, they will strike. Watch out if someone is always being nice to you, they might be an ulterior motive behind the niceness.

3) A scammer will never give you his contact number. They can always reach you but you cannot reach them. They pay a girl to make the calls and convince you that they are genuine. The girl tells you everything you want to hear and more. They call you from a cell phone but hide the caller ID. And make you think that they are calling you from a pay phone. If she is real she will give you her number and tell you to call her anytime because she has nothing to hide. If your online date refuses to give you her contact number, for no concrete reason, dump her!

4) They always have pathetic stories to fill you with. Her father is very ill and she does not have the finances to cover the cost of his surgery blah blah blah. In a nut shell she is hoping that you would offer to cover the cost of the surgery (which most kind hearted people do). If she subtly hints that she has financial crisis, be careful.

5) This is the newest craze in the scamming community. Gay men are the target of these scammers; they pretend to be closet gay men stuck in Nigeria and would require financial help in order to leave the country because if the society finds out, they could face dire consequences. The Nigerian government has zero tolerance for gay or lesbian relationships. They take advantage of this law and trick unsuspecting gay men into sending money to procure a passport and travel documents. As soon as they lay their hands on the money, you will never hear from them again.

Most people are honest; some of them will rather starve to death than scam anyone. The sad truth of the matter is that most people in Nigeria have never operated a computer before but many of the young people who do, misuse the opportunity.
