How to Mend a Broken Heart

How to Get Over it and Have Fun in the Process!

Emily Retherford
You just ended a long relationship and naturally you are feeling sad and lonely, but how do you stay on top of things and heal your broken heart at the same time? Getting over a break up is not an easy thing to do, but it's not impossible either, especially if you follow some of these suggestions.

Did you know that a lot of the pain from a broken heart comes from embarrassment? The first thing you should do is refuse to be embarrassed! We put to much thought into what outsiders think of us and even the relationships we idolize have problems. Breaking up happens to everyone. There is no need to feel any embarrassment or shame!

Also, you should try to stay busy. Keeping active takes your mind off of things. No, you can't run from your problems and you do need time to mourn, but keeping busy is important. If you don't at least keep to your regular schedule, it will be harder in the long run to get going again. That's why the first thing you need to do is get out of bed! No matter how hard it is, get out of bed and go through your normal routine.

You should also try to surround yourself with people who love you. Friends and family are always going to tell you how great you are when they know you're depressed and right now you need a confidence boost! Share your feelings with them and listen to what they have to say. Not only does talking about it help you feel better, but your friends and family want what's best for you and they can help put things in perspective.

Instead of thinking about all the things you will miss, remember all of your ex's bad habits. Think about the things you won't miss. Think about the little things that annoyed you. There is a reason your relationship ended and you don't need to take a backwards step.

Don't forget to pamper yourself! There is not a better confidence booster than a new hair cut or dying your hair a new color. Treat yourself to a manicure and pedicure. If the budget allows why not splurge for a massage or a new outfit.

Another good thing to do for yourself is have a night out! If you are in the mood to go out, hit your favorite dance club. If you'd rather stay home, invite the girls over for a slumber party! There's nothing better than jammies and margaritas!

Lastly, remember, breaking up is never easy and healing a broken heart takes time. You need to mourn its part of the healing process, but you will get past it.
