How is Michael Brewer Doing

Ms. Marie
It has been a little over a month now since the horrifying incident, when a 15 year-old teen, Michael Brewer was doused with alcohol and set on fire by five teens. His grueling ordeal touched hearts world-wide, and caused an out pour of opinions regarding how his attackers should be charged; as adults or minors. But there is another question we all wonder about daily. How is Michael Brewer doing? Well, there is some good news.

A report in the Sun Sentinel, by Rafael A. Olmeda, last Friday 13th of November 2009, states that Michael Brewer spoke his first words two days after he was taken off the ventilator. For those who do not know what a ventilator is or would like to learn more about ventilators, which are used to assist in breathing, you can get information to help you understand how they work. Also, Michael has had Jell-O and water which is great for someone who has been on a ventilator for a month.

This is uplifting news because a few weeks prior to this Michael suffered from an irregular heartbeat which needed emergency treatment, he was stabilized, and remained in critical condition. Dr. Namias has been very honest and clear about the possible complications, such as infections, during Michael's recovery process.

Sadly, a very disturbing incident occurred at Melissa Durkee's, Michael's sister, home. The 22 year-old found two burnt dolls, that belong to her daughters, stuck together and floating in her pool. This is simply sickening, and anyone that has information about this can report it to Broward County Crime stoppers anonymously at 954-493-TIPS.

Charges Filed - "Attempted-murder charges were brought against the three who are accused of directing the attack, pouring the alcohol and flicking the lighter. Matthew Bent and Denver Jarvis, both 15, and Jesus Mendez, 16 were charged as adults earlier this week." "Bent, Jarvis, and Mendez are scheduled to be arraigned next week...The other two juveniles accused of being part of the group were released without charges..."Reported By, Rafael A. Olmeda on 13 November 2009, Sun Sentinel.

The charges filed are a step in the direction of justice being served. Although, many people may be upset about the other two boys being released without charges. It appears the outcry of the people has been heard, and there is still hope that this act of evil will not go unpunished.

Let us all continue to pray for the best possible recovery for Michael Brewer.
