You can also make a countdown calendar to surprise your kids with a Disney trip. Make it the night before you plan to tell them about the trip while they are sleeping. What a great breakfast surprise!
Supplies Needed for a Mickey Mouse Disney Countdown Calendar
1 large white poster board
Various colors of construction paper or scrapbook paper
Black marker
Ruler
Glue
Scrap paper
Scissors
Pencil
Disney themed stickers, glitter, or other accents
Assembly Instructions for Mickey Mouse Disney Countdown Calendar
1. Trace a Mickey Mouse head silhouette onto scrap paper using the pencil to make your template. Or you could use a Disney paint chip from Home Depot for a template.
2. Decide how many days you want in your countdown calendar. I recommended starting the calendar at either 30 days or 15 days out from your vacation departure date.
3. Trace the Mickey template onto different colored paper. Trace one Mickey head for each day on your calendar.
4. Cut out the Mickey heads using scissors.
5. Write one number on each Mickey head. If you are doing a 30 day countdown, you'll start with number 30 and go down to number 1. For the day of departure, you can decorate the Mickey head differently or write "vacation" or "Disney" on it.
6. Draw a grid calendar on the large poster board with the ruler and black marker. Be sure you have enough squares for each of your Mickey heads.
7. Leave a space on top of the grid calendar to write a title such as "Our Disney Family Vacation."
8. Glue the Mickey heads onto the grid calendar, starting with number 30 and counting down to 1.
9. Allow to dry.
10. Decorate the remaining white space on the countdown calendar with extra stickers, glitter, or other embellishments if you want.
11. Use the black marker to cross off each day on the countdown calendar as you get closer to your special Disney vacation!
Countdown Calendar Options:
1. Leave extra white space under each Mickey head on the countdown calendar. Use this white space to write down vacation preparation tasks. For example, on day 10 you may want to write a reminder to verify all reservations.
2. Use other Disney characters to make the countdown calendar instead of Mickey Mouse.
3. Save the Mickey heads from the countdown calendar and have the characters autograph them while at Disney for a fun keepsake. If you save them, use a smaller amount of glue or use tape to adhere them to the calendar.
