How the Middle Class Blames the Poor for the Poor Economy

I am a die hard defender of the unions. Blaming the the unions is an attack on the working class. Any times the unions win a wage increase, it sets the standard for all workers: union or not. When union wages rise, so do non-union wages - in order to discourage non-union workers from unionizing.

If wages are cut in auto, that will trickle down to ALL wages: mine and yours. The American worker has always has been the backbone upon which the American economy depends. It seems rather silly that the worker should bear the brunt of so many years of mismanagement and bad marketing.

Merril Lynch, had to be bought by Bank of America. It is one of the banks which will receive a large portion of the 700 billion bailout. And yet its CEO... the one responsible for driving that business to the ground is likely to receive a 10 million dollar severance package.

Maybe the working class didn't cause this problem.

I think that by getting rid of immigrant labor we did away with the only source of cheap labor in the country. Now we import our food from other countries, which are slowly driving the American farmer out of business... yet again.

As for the unions: when we blame the unions, we are blaming the middle class for not making as much money as we would like to make, while our tax dollars are being siphoned into the accounts of the rich and powerful. They are getting everything they need to survive this economic downturn. They are getting our tax dollars, without restrictions - to do as they please with it.

This is a class issue. It always has been. Except today, the usual scapegoats (race) will not lend themselves to the cover up.

Joe Plumber didn't like Obama's policies because Obama wanted *everyone* to have the same opportunity that Joe The Plumber did, to start a business. Likewise, people with college educations abhor the idea that some high school grad doing the hard, back breaking labor that people get educations to try to avoid, is making more money than they are.

It would be a great social experiment to see what would occur if everyone had the same access to education. That would make competition much more interesting.

But I'll say it again, because this is important: corporatism has led to this. Unregulated capitalism, is responsible. And the people who are to blame is a government who is so disconnected from the people it serves, and the true masters that they serve. Tax dollars that every working American pays, which should be going to infrastructure, education, health care and other social programs to improve the lives of Americans is being handed to a small number of special interests without any restrictions, requirements for transparency, or accountability.

We fall for it every time. We fell for it when we invaded Iraq. We need to blame some one, after all, and most people lack the courage to put the blame where it belongs. Vengeance is vengeance, so who cares if we squash some innocent as long as we get the gratification of seeing some one else "getting theirs." As much as I don't like that attitude, I understand it... because the rich and powerful are untouchable and they are not restrained by the same laws the rest of us are.

So let's blame the illegal aliens and the union worker instead. Let's not inconvenience ourselves with the truth.
