How to Do Mille Lacs Lake Minnesota on a Small Budget in Your RV
Mille Lacs Lake Minnesota is a Great Budget RV Destination
Where does this leave those traveling on limited budgets? Will you be turned away at the edge of town? Must you prove sufficient monetary status to enter? Not likely...
That's the beauty of spectacular scenery. Just being able to view open water that is deep blue & crystal clear and watch the activities going on around you allows you to be part of the summer experience that is Mille Lacs Lake.
Mille Lacs Lake is the second largest inland lake in Minnesota. What that means is Lake Superior doesn't count when you're considering lakes that are so large you can't see the opposite shore.
That's right, Mille Lacs Lake covers 207 square miles of surface area, making it large enough that weather and temperatures are affected by the cool mass of water. Evening temperatures are generally mild and comfortable.
Public access to the lake is plentiful and located in most small towns, resort areas, and quaint little communities along the shore front highways that circle the whole lake. Most are designated boat launch spots, but nothing is preventing you from stopping to walk the shoreline, or enjoy a picnic.
Each town along your route has its own unique offerings. Park the RV and walk along the streets and sidewalks. Enjoy a cup of coffee and some pleasant conversation at a local coffee shop or cafe. Let the lucky fisherman or woman at the next table relate their story of great success out on the lake that morning. It will feel like you were right there with them on that expensive charter boat while they reeled in that trophy fish.
After you've spent your day enjoying the sights, snapping pictures, and partaking in local culture fire up your motorhome and head over to Grand Casino Mille Lacs Lake.
There you will find a special parking lot designated for over sized vehicles. It's around back away from the noise of highway traffic and offers plenty of space for RV's of any size. The back row has lush green forest behind it providing good shade even through the hottest part of the day.
Your welcome to spend the night for free, though it's hoped you will come in and partake in the gaming activities.
Considering our budget a good meal was more important to us. With three eatery options on site, you can satisfy any appetite for as little as $10 per person.
Our weekend in Mille Lacs Lake Minnesota was both entertaining and relaxing. Beyond the cost of gas to drive there we limited our expenditures to one meal for two, $23 including tip and tax. Now that's RVing On The Cheap no matter how you look at it.
