Getting started on Neopets' Trading Post (or TP as the experienced players call it on the site's forums), isn't hard and can be a very lucrative venture if you continue with it. All you need is a few items in your inventory and you're ready to go.
Now, there are two main ways of going about this: trade items you find through random events, or make offers on other lots with your items or neopoints. Both are equally effective, however, the latter tends to make a lot more neopoints in the long run.
Random events and "dailies" are the easiest items to obtain. Found a codestone on the floor? Put it on the TP. Have a month's worth of omelettes from the free-for-all Giant Omelette on the Tyrannian Plateau? Create omelette lots for owners with hungry Neopets. Won a paintbrush through one of Neopets' chance games? TP again.
As you can see, the opportunities are limitless on the Neopets TP. While it's great to splurge these cool items on your Neopets every once in a while, if you're really strapped for neopoints, it would be best to trade them. After, these are free items; every neopoints is pure profit. Make sure you know the value of the items in which you are trading however; otherwise you will not be using them to their fullest potential.
The other way in which you can make a ton of neopoints on the TP is by trading items you already have for those of greater value. Many Neopets players aren't very picky; in fact, some are desperate to get rid of their items and will accept pretty much any decent offer. You may also trade neopoints for some lots. This may seem counterproductive, but it actually works out really well if you get the items for a good price and later trade them for more neopoints than you initially paid.
For example: if you bid one hundred neopoints on a lot of ten bacon omelettes (worth approximately twenty neopoints each, according to the Neopian Shop Wizard), then you can potentially trade those for two hundred neopoints (or sell them in your shop for twenty neopoints each). That's a 200% profit right there! Do this often enough, and you'll be doubling your neopoints faster than you can get your lots onto the Neopets TP!
As you can see, it is very easy to make a lot of neopoints on the Neopets TP. With a careful strategy, good items, and basic knowledge of the value of what you are trading, you can be a neomillionaire in no time.
