How You Can Make Money as a Food Critic: Get Paid to Do What You Love - Eat!

If you are like many other individuals, there is a good chance that you enjoy food. In fact, you may enjoy trying new, exciting, and interesting dishes. If so, do you know that you could make a career out of trying new foods? This is possible if you also have experience or a passion for writing. The career opportunity in question is a food critic. If you set your mind to it, you could make a decent living as a food critic.

Food critics, also commonly referred to as restaurant critics, are individuals who write reviews on the meals that they ate or the restaurant they visited. Food critics are often employed by local newspapers or national magazine publications. If you are interested in writing for a nationally published magazine, your changes of finding work are slimmer than if you choose to work locally. In fact, if you are looking to get experience before approaching a national publication, you may want to think about getting your experience locally first.

The first step in becoming a local food critic is to examine your options. Most cities, including small ones, have their own newspapers. Search through your local newspaper to see if the newspaper in question already employees a food critic. If not, this is your opportunity. Approach your newspaper's editor by scheduling a meeting with them. Use this meeting to discuss the possibility of starting a food review or a restaurant review column. This is your opportunity to "sell" yourself and your ideas. Make it known that many readers enjoy food and restaurant reviews. In fact, in some newspapers and magazines, these reviews are some of the most read articles!

If you are approaching your local newspaper, which has never had a food critic before, be prepared to write for a small amount of pay. In fact, you may even have to write a free "sample." This sample may be used to determine whether or not readers will really enjoy reading a food critic column. If your suggestion for a food critic column is automatically turned down, suggest writing a free sample. After your sample has been published, the polling of readers is a great way for a newspaper editor to measure the success of your article.

If your local newspaper is unwilling to hire you as a food critic, be sure to approach other local publications. If you get the same response, you can still have your dream job. You can do this by becoming your own food writer. Although you will not be paid directly for your work, there are other ways that you can make money. To become your own food critic writer, you need to have an online website or at least a online blog.

It may be best to have your domain name or your website title be related to your location, in one way or another. This may help to attract local visitors. Advertise your food critic website online or locally, in your newspaper or in restaurants. You may be able to make money with programs such as Google Adsense or other affiliate programs. It is also important to note that you can use your website for samples, when trying to get hired elsewhere.

As you can see, there are a number of different ways that you can make money as a food critic writer. Whether you choose to work for yourself or you get hired to write for a local or national publication, you can make money doing something that you love.
