How to Make Money in College

Thundercats
College is a tough time during one's life. Although it is an investment in a higher education, tuition and other fees can empty pockets extremely quickly. Here are secrets to living large on your own:

Sell old Textbooks

Buying textbooks can be extremely expensive, yet you can make a lot of that money back at the end of the semester. Make sure to keep your books in good condition as you are using them. Treat your books with care and respect, and they will give you knowledge as well as up to 50% their original worth at the end of the semester. Here are some ways to sell them:

-You can always go back to your school bookstore where you originally bought the textbooks. Colleges and Universities will usually have buyback policies, and they give cash!

- List your textbooks on Ebay or Facebook, or ask around if you can sell them to new students/friends. You will usually get a higher price for selling to people rather than back to the bookstore.

Do Research

Professors or Institutions/Labs usually have funds given to them by the school in order to conduct research. You can do some online research to see which departments have openings for research. They understand that you are a student and have classes to study for, so these jobs will be about 15-20+ hours a week part time with a flexible schedule. It's also a great opportunity to maybe develop a passion for something!

Psychology Experiments

Sounds scary right? It's actually a very good source of petty cash. A university's Psychology department is always needing participants to take part in studies they conduct to further their research. After all, their data must come from actual experimentation on subject participants. There are many experiments to choose from. Many will ask you to take surveys, or take part in a focus group. Some will ask you to take a test to gauge your memory skills, and others will ask you to take an MRI. Whatever the experiment, they will always tell you the risks involved and you can leave at any time. After you sign the consent form, you are well on your way to making money! These typically pay $10-$15 an hour.

Campus Rep.

A lot of companies need to market their products to the college level age group. These companies range from selling cosmetics to video games. Find a product you like and start to sell. You will most likely get paid a small base pay plus commission, so try to get as many customers as you can!

Restaurants

Many restaurants will be near campus, as it is a necessity for students to eat, and with the time constraints of a college student, they will most likely be ordering food or buying it. Ask around or see if any of these places need part time help, and you can work there in between classes or even at night.

Tutor

Are you good at a subject? Feel comfortable enough to help someone else succeed? Then you should become a tutor. Tutoring is one of the most easiest and rewarding things you can do. The knowledge you learned in previous classes is not wasted because there will always be others who are willing to pay for your help. These types of jobs pay $15-$20 an hour.

Fixing Computers

Are you good at fixing computers? You can work in one of your School's help desks, or even run a repair company from your own dorm.

Sell Old Clothes

We all have old clothes we just don't wear anymore. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Sell your clothes, don't let your cash gather dust in the closet!

Campus Jobs

Many organizations on campus/campus facilities need students to maintain and upkeep equipment, answer phone calls, etc. These types of jobs don't really require full time devotion, perfect for a student looking for a part time job to make some extra cash.

College is an investment in oneself for a higher salary in the workforce later in life. Make studying your top priority, but who says you have to be poor?
