How to Make Money on eBay

John Vann
Thousands of people every year start up an eBay seller's account with the intent and hopes of selling off all of their old junk and making it rich. Well first of all, it's not exactly that easy - nobody wants to buy junk. So the first thing you'll need to start selling on eBay is a marketable item; something that somebody wants.

This could be something you make yourself, something you buy at a discount and then resell for a profit, old collectibles taking up space or nearly anything else. Really, you would be surprised at some of the things that sell on Ebay.

But to make sure that you receive the maximum amount of money possible for your auction, you need to maximize the amount of exposure your auction listing receives. Ebay auction pages that are well thought out and designed to display all of the necessary information are far more likely to attract genuine bids.

First, you should always make sure to include relevant keywords in the title of your auction listing. Don't include any misleading or keywords that have nothing to do with the object - this will only confuse potential bidders and do nothing but drive them away.

Once you have the attention of a potential bidder and they have clicked on your item's headline, they are brought to the listing page. This is where sales are really made on Ebay - the item listing page itself. Make sure to describe the item you are selling in complete detail. Include any scratches, dents or defects in any items as well. Avoid using small fonts, or any color schemes that are hard on the eyes - if a bidder can't read the description of the item, they're certainly not going to bid on it.

If possible, include a picture of the object you are selling on Ebay. If you don't have a digital camera to take one yourself, try to find a stock photo of the item on the internet. If you do this, however, always make sure to indicate that the picture is indeed a stock photo, and not representative of the specific item itself.

Another good idea is to accept as many different forms of payment as you possibly can. On the Internet you will find people using a variety of payment methods, from checks and money orders that need to be physically mailed to your address and cashed at a bank, to electronic forms of payment such as PayPal. The more forms of payment you accept for your auction the better, as you will open your auction up to a wider audience of potential bidders.
