How to Make Money on Your Personal Blog

It seems that everyone has a blog, or two, these days. If you have been blogging for any period of time then you have probably noticed that other bloggers have ads on their blogs or seem to be subtly pitching products on their sidebars or maybe even right in their blog posts. This is because these bloggers have found a way to keep on blogging about what interests them and make money off of it at the same time. You can make money from your personal blog in a number of different ways as well.

PPC

Probably the most common way to make money, or monetize, your personal blog is to use a pay-per-click, also known as PPC, program. These include but are not limited to Google's AdSense or its top competitor AdBrite. What these programs allow you to do is to place ads on your website; it then determines what you are writing about and offers products related to your blog's topic. When a user clicks on the ads, regardless of whether they purchase or not, you are credited with money for that click.

Affiliate Ads

Another popular option is to run affiliate ads. This means you would have to manually pick the product(s) you want to advertise and then place ads for them on your blog. This time, however, you will not be paid for a click but rather given a percentage of the total sale when a user buys the product. This can be quite profitable but it will be a bit more difficult to get sales than to get clicks.

CPA

Your third option for making money on your existing blog is to use a type of advertisement called cost-per-action, or CPA, ads. CPA ads can be considered the middle ground here, something in between PPC and straight affiliate. The way these ads work is that you will be paid based on the completion of an action, which is usually more than a click but less than a sale. Some common examples would be that you are paid when a user clicks you ad then enters their e-mail address as prompted.
