How Money Ruins Relationships

Michelle Knudson
There are several reasons why people argue over money. Money is the number one reason in the world that people end a relationship. Here are four reasons on how money can ruin relationships.

Big Spender

The relationship simply won't work when one partner is a big spender and the other one is not. People who are frugal with their money will not get along well with a big spender. They will often feel mad at them when they see their partner spending money on unnecessary items all the time. Partners comes to running to the other one to expect them to take care of them after they spent every last dime.

Family Loans

Family members that lend money to other family members may cause problems. The person may be mad if they find out that their sisters husband benefited from it somehow. They may be mad if he or she fails to make payments back on the loan. Most people that get a loan from family usually doesn't pay it back in most cases.

Child Support

Child Support can cause someone to have a ton of anger towards their partner. Garnished wages can cause a ton of financial strain on a relationship. One partner may feel that he or she is paying in a way too for the child support since one suffers too. He or she may almost regret the relationship when they find out about high garnishments. It doesn't seem fair when the other partner has to spend their own money on the partner paying child support. They may feel that their life is ruined for several years due to such financial hardship that they see no light in the future.

College

One partner may get extremely upset when their partner doesn't support them emotionally during in college. One may feel that their partner doesn't care, but they wouldn't hesitate to use their salary to support their habits later on. College degrees are worth something and often the other partner just mooches off of the graduate. The college degree seeker put it in all the work in getting the degree then the partner on the side just spends all the money.

Great article, Michelle. I agree that these three get you in the most trouble.
