How to Make Money Teaching Your Own Language

Did you know that there are thousands of people wanting to learn a language? They are more than willing to pay someone to teach them, and that someone could be you!

One of the most sought-after language is English, and if you are a native speaker, you can make your living in any non-English speaking country of the world. And that is just by speaking your native tongue. It is very easy, as you can imagine and makes for the perfect way to fund your travels.

In order to teach the English language, all you need is a good knowledge of your own language and some patience. It can be difficult to sit for an hour or two with someone who is struggling to get even a few words out. With strong accents, you might have problems understanding your students, but that is all part of the learning process.

If you have never taught before, you might want to start off working in an English school. These schools exist all around the world and usually offer brief orientation training for new teachers. Alternatively, you could take a TOEFL course, but then you would have to pay for it! English language schools offer their training free of charge, provided you then work for them.

Some people prefer not to work in a school, so you might be better off starting out on your own. Teaching beginners is the best way to get a toe hold in the business of teaching the English language. They won't realize if you make a mistake or two! However, unless you speak the native language of the area where you are teaching, absolute beginners can be very tough. Most communication will be done with signs and drawings at the beginning if you have no language in common!

When working on your own, it is a good idea to have a few resources. You can search the internet in order to find printable worksheets and games for teaching language. Children's beginning reader books are also handy for reading and vocabulary classes. A decent grammar book can also be handy if you aren't very confident in your ability to explain gerunds and such. (Another good reason to stick to beginners, it is all vocabulary!)

To find private students, all you need to do is put up ads. Find someone to help you write in the local language, letting people know that you are available to teach English. Add contact information and prices and you are ready to go. If you don't have a phone, it might be worth getting a cell phone, since many people won't respond to an email. There are also job boards online where you can find jobs in other countries, with Japan and Korea being the most popular and the best paid.

Whether working in a school or privately, you will find that teaching the English language is the best way to stop and enjoy a country while earning money for traveling. And if you already speak English, why not teach it?
