Gift Idea for Graduation, Birthday, or Wedding

Nikki
Have you ever wanted your own personal money tree? I know I have ... but never quite figured out how to actually grow one. I did, however, discover a unique and quick craft project that turns dollar bills into a money tree gift.

This cute craft project turns cold hard cash into a whimsical and practical gift that anyone would like to receive! It is very easy to create and is perfect for special occasions such as graduation, birthdays, or weddings.

Items Needed to Create a Money Tree Craft

Cash (paper dollar bills)
Vase (clear or colored)
Tissue paper, confetti, or lace
Floral wire or pipe cleaners
Note card
Ribbon or raffia
Scissors
Floral tape
Pen or pencil
Hole punch
Construction paper (optional)

How to Make a Money Tree Flower Bouquet Gift

Decide how much money you want to give and gather the cash. Any denomination will work. Crisper currency works better for this project because the paper is sturdier and easier to mold into shape.

If you are short on cash but want your tree to look full, use a lot of one dollar bills in lieu of fives, tens, etc. Alternatively, use construction paper or tissue paper for fillers mixed in with the currency to make your bouquet fuller.

Take a piece of floral wire or a pipe cleaner and wrap one end tightly around the middle of one of the dollars. Crinkle the money into a flower-like shape. Leave the bottom part of the wire or pipe cleaner long to create a stem. The length should be a little shorter than the vase. Continue to repeat this until you have wrapped and shaped each piece of money, construction paper, or tissue paper.

Gather all of the finished stems in your hand and wrap some floral tape around the bundle to resemble a bouquet of flowers. Wrap your bouquet in some tissue paper and insert it into the vase, leaving a bit of the tissue paper hanging over the sides.

To stabilize the flower bouquet, add some type of filler to the inside of the vase. Use your imagination and get creative. If you are making this as a graduation gift, use shredded tissue paper or shaped metallic confetti shaded in the school colors to stuff inside the vase. For a wedding present, use gold or silver lace or ribbon as filler. To personalize for a birthday, fill the vase with Styrofoam peanuts and line the inside with some photos of the recipient.

Use a pen or pencil to write a personal message on a homemade note card. Punch a hole in the card near one edge. Thread some ribbon through the hole and attach the card to the vase. Use scissors to curl the ends of the ribbon, or shred it for a more rustic look. Raffia could be used in place of the ribbon.

That's all there is to it! Cold hard cash makes a great graduation gift, wedding present, or birthday present ... and this crafty creation is a classy way to fork over the dough.

So the next time someone asks you "do you think money grows on trees" you'll have an answer. You can tell them it does if you know how to create this unique money tree craft!

Hmm, this could be a very expensive gift idea in Canada as our lowest paper denomination is a $5 LOL...but nonetheless, a super fantastic idea. Who wouldn`t love a money bouquet :)
