But wait. That seems to contradict most information you can find about Disney. There's so much to see and so little time. Don't I want to squeeze in as much as I can? Don't I want to follow an itinerary that will take me to as many things as I can handle before collapsing?
The answer is a huge, resounding no. I hear stories all the time of people who have visited Disney, only to think it was a huge waste of their time and money, and it usually happens that they are following the "let's cram everything we can into 2 days!" strategy. Some people arrive at and then never stop moving, obsessed with doing as many of the rides as possible. They think the rides are all there is to Disney World. Nothing could be further from the truth. Walt Disney World is so much more than two-minute rides about pirates, Aerosmith, and yetis.
Yes, those are the things that come to mind when first thinking of the parks, but Disney is filled with a plethora of hidden treasures, some of which are hidden in plain sight. For example, have you ever taken the time to stop and look at the ground under your feet? The concrete is mixed with specific items to complement each themed land in each park. Have you ever paid attention to the landscaping that surrounds you? Beautiful and exotic flowers, Disney-themed topiaries, and intricately staged natural scenes are everywhere. Did you know that everyone who works the World Showcase is actually a student from the countries Disney represents there? And that they are more than happy to discuss their homes? There is no end to what you might find and learn if only you take a moment to do so.
Gardens, trails off the beaten path, sight gags, rocking chairs, unique photo-ops, the infamous "Hidden Mickeys", and the things mentioned above are just a few of the often overlooked extras that exist around every corner. These details are no accident. They were designed as part of the parks as a way for people to get even more enjoyment out of an already totally unique and immersive experience. Disney magic is real, and these are the things that bring it to life.
Next time you plan a Disney trip, of course, make time for the rides and attractions you know you love and must do. But instead of focusing all your energy into the rides, take a second to stop and look around, and appreciate all the work and planning that went into those parks. Take the time to find some hidden treasures you can call your own. You'll be amazed at the worthwhile and fulfilling vacation you'll end up having.
