How to Monogram Your Linens with Ease
This Craft Project Will Teach You How to Add a Personal and Sophisticated Touch to Your Linens
Materials: Fabric paint (any color), a small paintbrush, freezer paper (Reynolds works great), a piece of cardboard, an exacto knife, iron and computer.
Directions: Begin by choosing the linens you would like to monogram such as bed sheets, pillow cases, towels etc. Once you have determined which articles you plan to monogram, you will need to type the letter or letters you are going to use in a word processing document on the computer. Choose a font style and the size you would like your monogram to be. Make sure to choose a size that is suitable for your project. Now print out your monogram on copy paper.
Now cut out a piece of the freezer paper large enough to cover the print of your monogram. Lay the freezer paper with the matte side facing up on top of the printed monogram and trace the monogram onto the freezer paper. You can discard the printed monogram or save it for another project. Now place the freezer paper onto the cardboard and with the exacto knife cut out the letter from the freezer paper. Dispose of the letter and keep the remaining stencil.
Next, place the linen you are going to monogram on an ironing board and determine the placement for your monogram. Now place the stencil with the matte side facing up onto your project. Turn the iron on the highest setting and press the iron down on the stencil (do not move back and forth). You want the stencil to lightly adhere to the fabric.
Now using your fabric paint and the small paintbrush carefully fill in the letter. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly, then remove the stencil.
To finalize your monogram, use the hot iron and press down on the letter for approximately 30 seconds. This will help set the paint, so the monogram doesn't't come off when the linens are washed.
Tips: If you would like to adorn your linens with designs, simply make copies of the designs you would like to use and follow the same steps, as above.
When you pair your monogram with scrolls, leaves or emblems, you can create customized linens that look like high end purchases.
