How to Be More Optimistic

If you would like to attract more positivity into your life, you must first start by being a more positive person. If you are a negative thinker, you usually expect bad outcomes and bad things to happen often. You probably worry a lot and may even be frustrated with your life, thinking that nothing ever goes right. Here are a few ideas on how you can be more optimistic and attract more positive things into your life.

Surround yourself with positive people. If you are always around people that bring you down, try finding more optimistic people to spend time with. You will be attracted to their positive outlook and want to maintain that for yourself. Positive people can give you advice and tips on how to stay positive and think more optimistically.

Do things that you enjoy doing. Make some time for yourself to do things that you like to do. For instance, if you like flowers, try planting a flower garden or if you are good at drawing or art, try painting a beautiful scene. Getting involved in something that you like to do will help you to stay more positive.

Take the time to look at nature. Do you ever stop to look at flowers, trees and birds? Watch a beautiful sunset, go to a lake or river and look at the water. Appreciate nature and it's beauty.

Be thankful for what you have and show your appreciation and gratitude towards others. Be kind to others and and be a friendly person. Having good friendships in your life can help you to be more optimistic.

Just because you are trying to be optimistic doesn't mean you can't cry or feel upset. You are going to experience human emotions, from sadness to anger. That is a part of life. A more optimistic person will experience those feelings, but then they know how to handle them better and get over them faster. They will shift their negative thinking process into something more positive and think more about the good things that await them in life.

Look on the bright side. Sometimes I say that things happen for a reason. You may never know why something bad happened, but something good may have come out of the experience. For instance, you may have experienced a bad hardship in your life, but it may have made you stronger and wiser because of it. You may have more compassion for people and understanding now because you went through struggles and have suffered a lot throughout your life.

Try not to get absorbed in bad news. The media and news stations are always broadcasting bad news of violence and crime. If you want to stay current on the news, that's fine, but don't dwell on it. Let it go. I do not watch the news because of this. I feel that I would rather watch something more positive, like a good funny television show.

Look at life with wonder and awe. Did you ever see how children react when they see things that they like?
Children are curious and filled with wonder. Be curious about things and how they work. Be curious about people and show your interest in them. Try to keep learning new things. Be excited about what you learn. Show enthusiasm for things that you like. Bring out your inner child and fill your life with wonder and awe.

Smile a lot. Sometimes it's hard to smile and feel down at the same time. See if you can force a smile on your face a few times a day. Smiling is contagious, if you smile at someone, usually they will smile back.

Expect good things to happen to you in your life, instead of always thinking the worse. Write down in a journal your hopes, dreams and goals and try to attain them. Try to make a few of those things become reality. Focus on being good to yourself as well as being good to others.
