How to Get the Most DPS Out of Your Death Knight

Getting Max DPS with a Death Knight is Easy as 1-2-3!

Carl Ridgway
Like many World of Warcraft players out there, I was at a lost when it came to using a Death Knight for DPS. Most turn to tanking which really isn't my favorite thing to do. So I decided to go with a damage dealing Death Knight.
Picking the right Specialization for a death knight is key, and unlike most classes in World of Warcraft a Death Knight's DPS doesn't rely on gear but rotation. But more on that later.

Now on the the part you've all been waiting for, the talent tree and where to spend your points.

NOTE: This is for level 80 Death Knights ONLY! This is NOT recommended for leveling.

The bulk of your points will go into Unholy, with the rest in Blood.

Unholy

Vicious Strikes
- 2/2

Virulence - 3/3

Epidemic - 2/2

Morbidity - 3/3

Outbreak - 3/3

Necrosis - 5/5

Blood-Caked Blade - 3/3

Unholy Blight - 1/1

Impurity - 5/5

Desecration - 2/2

Reaping - 3/3

Desolation - 5/5

Crypt Fever - 3/3

Bone Armor - 1/1

Wandering Plague - 3/3

Ebon Plaguebringer - 3/3

Scourge Strike - 1/1

Rage o fRivendare - 5/5

Summon Gargoyle - 1/1

NOTE: Instead of putting points in Desecration and Summon Gargoyle they can be used in Night of the Dead and Master of Ghouls.

Blood

Butchery - 2/2

Subversion - 3/3

Bladed Armor - 5/5

Two-Handed Specialization - 2/2

Dark Conviction - 5/5

The next step in getting the most out of your Unholy Death Knight is applying glyphs. Some may not agree with this but I think these will get some good damage going.

MAJOR

Glyph of Unholy Blight

Glyph of Icy Touch

Glyph of Plague Strike

MINOR

Glyph of Raise Dead

Glyph of Horn of Winter

Glyph of Pestilence

We are almost at the finish line. Next step in DPS is your rotation. With the rotation I chose there should be no reason for waiting and cooldowns.

Rotations

Step one - Icy touch

Step two - Plague Strike

Step three - Blood Strike

Step four - Scourge Strike

Step five - Death Coil

Step six - Death Coil (you can use Horn of Winter on this step if you don't have enough Runic Power.)

Step Seven - Back to step one

That's it! you can throw some Obliterates and Death Strikes in for good measure but it might throw you off if you don't know what you're doing.

Have Fun and HAPPY DPSing
