How to Get the Most Frequent Flyer Miles

Susan Brown
Do you travel via airplane quite often? Why not let your loyalty to the sky pay you back - in the way of free flights and free vacations? It's easy when you join a great frequent flyer program, and when you do join one there are some ways to really maximize your earning potential.

Often, the most popular times to travel are going to be totally booked out. You know the times - around holidays and other vacation times for the general public. Chances are, that's when you'll want to fly as well. So, book your flights as early as possible - think many, many months in advance.

Plan your trips at times that are not peak seasons. You know - travel to Florida in November, or go to a tropical island in wintertime. Prices will be cheaper, but you get the same miles as you would during peak seasons.

Try to show loyalty to one single airline. You don't want your points to be scattered everywhere for different airlines - get a lump amount from one single airline so that you can plan that one vacation you really want - and not little trips to places you didn't want to go anyway.

Don't be a big spender and don't try to upgrade to first class. If you really want to see the world and have a great time at your destination, having a few more inches in your seat on the plane shouldn't make a difference. Be frugal when it comes to your seat, and then you can really enjoy your destination.

Do a little research on the Internet to find frequent flyer programs. Not every program is equal - some are pretty bad, actually. So do your research, because there are also some really great ones out there as well - like British Airways that offers one of the most valuable programs when it comes to frequent flyers.

To educate yourself even more about Frequent Flyer programs, pick up some literature from Inside Flyer that can help you get the most out of your program, as well as The Frequent Flyer Guidebook, at www.insideflyer.com. And there are endless websites that compare the programs side-by-side.

Indeed, frequent flyer programs are something definitely worth looking into!
