How to Get the Most Use Out of Your Camera Phone

Heather M. Marlman
With today's technology just about everyone is carrying around a digital camera right in their pocket by virtue of their cell phone. While the camera phone craze seems to be the latest thing in digital technology, many fail to take advantage of the huge possibilities that can be right at their fingertips, often leaving their photos on their phone forever until they finally end up being deleted to make room for new ones.

In this article I'll give you some tips on how you can get the most out of your camera phone and take advantage of the opportunity to capture moments that were never before possible.

Know Your Phone

In the past, most camera phones came with relatively low resolution cameras built in. However, technology has allowed for most phones to have a relatively high resolution camera. In fact, Samsung just recently introduced a 7 megapixel camera built straight into a cell phone. Whatever the capabilities of your camera phone, understand the minimum and maximum resolution that is available and set it to it's highest setting to allow for greater control when editing the photo later on.

Get Some Memory

If you camera phone allows for an additional memory card to be installed. Most newer phones allow you to install as much as 2 gigs of additional memory by way of a microSD card that is installed in the camera. Not only does the additional memory give you the ability to take even more pictures, but it's also an easy way to get the pictures off of your phone and onto your home computer where you can create some real magic moments with your camera phone photos!

If All Else Fails

If your camera phone model doesn't have additional memory capabilities, don't let that stop you from taking as many pictures as possible. Most cell phone providers offer a service that allows you to send your camera phone photos directly to a web site where you can later go back and download those photos to your computer. Check to see what services your provider offers, and take advantage of the opportunity to send yourself these priceless moments captured from your cell phone.

Put them to Use

While there is the ability for camera phones to take some really high quality photographs, the truth is that generally the quality is less then desirable, especially if you're in low light situations and your camera phone isn't equipped with a flash. But don't let that stop you from using your camera phone to take pictures when you're out with your friends and family. With a photo editor and some photo editing techniques you can make even the worst picture look fantastic!

It's also a great idea to take advantage of their smaller size and create collages with your camera phone photos that can later be printed out on a single 8 x 10 sheet of glossy paper either from your home printer or from your local photo developer. These collages of candid moments with friends and family can make great additions to your scrapbook, and can even make for an interesting piece of photography to hang on the wall.

What Are You Waiting For??

Your cell phone camera doesn't have to be used for just taking pictures to use as your phone wallpaper background, a world of possibilities await you. The next time you're out don't pull out your phone to make a call - take a picture instead!

This reminds me that I need to get a new phone. Since my digital camera seems to be a jinx on the boat, a camera phone might be the ticket.

Great tips. I'm about to buy a new camera phone, and memory expansion is going to be a somewhat important issue for me.
