With gas prices at record highs and summer vacations at their maximum peak of the year, there are many different ways in which you can get the most out of your tank full of gas.

Everyone knows people use the most gas during the summer during vacations and day trips. Though you would want to spend most of your money on the vacation itself, much more then wanted is spent on gasoline. Driving is slowly becoming not even the cheapest way out anymore. If you are thinking about driving a long distance, it may actually be better to fly with the cheap "both ways" specials many airlines are offering these days to drive in some business.

"Particularly during these peak-driving summer months, we want to help drivers take advantage of easy ways to help maximize their fuel economy," said Lisa Carlson, global director of marketing at Jiffy Lube International. "Proper preventive maintenance can really help people improve gas mileage."

So how can you actually "maintenance" your car in order to save some gas money and get the most out of your gas? The key is to check certain properties in your car and compare them to the recommendations by the company of your vehicle because these will be the most efficient suggestions for your particular car model. Tire pressure if one key property. Based on a report by the Department of Energy (DOE), by simply maintaining the proper pressure that your vehicle's tires are inflated , gas mileage will improve by an outstanding 3.3 percent.

What else can one check in order to save some money at the pump? Another key aspect is to check if your vehicle's engine air filter is clogged, and if it is, replacing it will be a money-saver at the pump. This will play a big role in gas mileage, as the air filter can account for as much as 10 percent of your gas mileage. And what is another tip? Check your oil on a regular mileage basis. By giving your vehicle a frech supply of oil that is recommended for your vehicle, you will in turn give your car 1-2 percent more gas mileage.

There are also many ways to lower your gas mileage while driving. A driver should avoid rapid accelerating and speeding, as well as rapid braking, which wastes a lot of fuel. As well one should observe the speed limit, use cruise control as well as overdrive gears which will help one maintain a constant speed, avoid aggressive driving, and lightening what is in one's car by removing items in your car that are not necessary.

You can also buy gas at the cooler times of the day, because gas is sold at the pump by volume and like most substances expands in the heat.
