How to Make a Mother's Day Lavender Heart and Photo Plate

Pearlygates
All children love to make gifts, especially for mom on Mother's Day.

There is no day better for the kids to show her just how much they love her. For mom there is no gift better than one made from her child's own hands.

Mother's Day Lavender Heart:

10" x 5" piece of material (cotton, satin or velvet work well)
10" of ribbon (about ¼" to ½" wide)
5" x 5" piece of paper
Embroidery thread
Dried lavender
½" - 1" flower top
Tacky glue

Scissors
Pinking sheers
Pins
Darning needle

Make a template of a heart on the piece of paper. Fold the 10" piece of material in half; it will then be 5" x 5" doubled. Pin the heart on to the material and with the pinking sheers cut around the heart cutting through both pieces of fabric.
Tread the darning needle with the embroidery thread and knot one end so it will not slip through the material. Stitch pieces together about ½", around the heart, leaving 1" unfinished until you put the lavender in at this time and then stitch the last inch together.
Take the 10" piece of ribbon and fold in half, glue the ends together with tacky glue to form the hanger. Glue the end of hanger to the center top part of the heart and glue the flower on top of the ends of the hanger.

Mother's Day Photo Plate:

10" Clear glass plate
Picture of child or children
Piece of material, tissue paper, napkin (12" x 12")
Decoupage finish or white glue
Glass or protractor (to make circle around picture)

Pinking sheers or decorative scissors
Paint brush (about ½" is best)
Pencil

First, clean plate from any dirt or sticker residue. Set plate upside down on top of a piece of wax paper or a plastic bag.

Next take the picture you would like to use and with glass or protractor, draw a circle around the part of the picture you would like to display. Cut out circle with pinking sheers or decorative scissors.

If you are going to use white glue, mix with a small amount of water.

Take decoupage finish or white glue and use paint brush to spread over the whole front of the picture. Take the picture and place glue side down in the middle of the back of the plate. Centering it the best you can.

Now take the decoupage finish or white glue and spread over the whole back of the plate, including the picture. Take the piece of material, tissue paper or napkin and set over the glued plate as flat as possible. From the center out, brush glue on fairly thick and try to get material as flat as you can, getting out any air bubbles. Let dry and trim off access paper around plate with scissors.
