1. Involve your staff. Keeping people actively involved with what's going on will make them feel like a bigger part of the success. They'll want to work harder to make it a success.
2. Meeetings. Get representatives from every field of sales that your company is involved with. There's nothing worse than having to sit through a meeting that doesn't talk about anything that you're involved with. This will keep their attention when at the meeting and they'll feel like what they do actually has an impact on the company. This makes it easier to want to do well at your job when you know that it has meaning. Also, ask for suggestions from your sales staff. Who knows better about how things are being run than them. You might think that because you're a boss that you know more about it than they do, but trust me, you don't know what that job is actually like until you've done it.
3. Incentives. Many sales offices offer staff incentives when they've done a good job. This often is the biggest motivator for people. It reinforces that they're doing a good job and trust me, if a good job goes unnoticed then people will think that they aren't making a difference and they'll soon become apathetic about doing a good job. They'll start doing the bare minimum to get by instead of doing their best work. So take the time to notice a good job and reward them for it. Positive reinforcement is a good thing.
4. The will to succeed is human nature. Use that. Everybody wants to succeed. When given the option, nobody will willingly choose failure. So tell that that they can work together to be successful. Sometimes it's easier to make a sale when working with a partner. People often think that they'll earn less money overall by having to share a commission but if you show them that together they'll make more sales and have more success, they'll be willing to have a partner.
Knowing that teamwork sometimes works better than individuals is a decision that sometimes needs to made. Also, sometimes having management show them the way is the best way to go about teaching. So don't think that you're above a job. If it means getting the best performance out of your workers, don't hesitate to show them yourself how you want things done.
