How to Motivate Yourself to Lose Weight

July Wells
When you're trying to lose weight it's easy to find all the exercises you need to do and what you should eat, but it can be hard to find the motivation to keep this up for a long time. If you're not motivated to prepare the nutritious meal or exercise, you'll end up sitting around doing nothing and feeling depressed. Before you begin you need to find out what will motivate your weight loss. You may not find one immediately, but check out some methods of keeping yourself motivated.

One thing you can do when searching for weight loss motivation is keep a journal. Seeing your progress can be a great motivator. It might be a nuisance when you start but it will help you stay on track with your goals to lose weight. Take photos and keep a daily log about your weight. This will be an easy way to see how far you've come. The more records you keep, the easier it will be for you to see your progress. Progress is an excellent motivator!

Ask your friends if they want to try losing weight with you. You're more likely to stick to it if you have someone to talk with about your diet and exercise routines. Ideally you and your friend will have similar goals. You'll be able to offer each other advice as you reach milestones and assess your progress together. Each of you will have someone to be accountable to, ensuring you do your exercises and keep to your weight loss plans. It may seem small but it's a big deal those times when you don't feel like exercising. There is another person depending on you.

Remember, any routine will seem boring if you constantly do the same exercises. Don't be too strict with yourself, leave room to mix it up and try other things. Try a class for a new physical activity. The structure of a class schedule and learning new things can help to motivate you. Maybe you have always wanted to try dancing or a karate class. Perhaps you've always wanted to try rock climbing or synchronized swimming. Use your time to explore what interest you. You don't always have to be in the gym.

These are just a few of the things you can do to motivate yourself. Use your imagination! If you find something is working, keep at it. Whatever works for you. As you lose weight your motivations can change, reassess as you go along.
