How to Get Motivated for Spring Cleaning

C.B.
The flowers are starting to bloom, the weather's starting to look nicer, birds are chirping, and our house still feels like it's stuck in the winter blues. Spring cleaning is an important job to freshen up our homes for the spring and summer seasons. Motivation plays a big role in any kind of cleaning, and you're definitely going to need it this time. Here's a few tips to get you started:

1. Turn up the music, and get to cleaning! Music provides us with a ton of motivation, especially music with a catchy beat that you're able to clean to. It'll most definitely be very helpful in your cleaning process to plug in that iPod, or put in your favorite CD to keep you going.

2. Get some fresh air! Spring is the perfect season to keep the windows open for some fresh air. In that not too cold and not too hot weather, keeping your windows open not only feels great, but refreshing as well. Feeling the nice spring breeze is definitely a motivator when it comes to doing your spring cleaning.

3. Make a list for every room of the basic things you need to get done, to make it a little more simple and to get it on paper. It will make your spring cleaning seem a little more simple by writing down your tasks. And when I say write down the basic things, I mean the regular jobs such as sweep the floors, make the beds, etc. You should keep the number of tasks to a minimum. You don't want to make huge lists, because then it will seem overwhelming. This will also break down the job by reminding you of what you need to do in every room. It's a lot easier to get the job done when you're reminded of what you need to do and have a list right in front of your face. Start with the biggest room, which usually has the most tasks to finish, and end with the smallest. Giving yourself a time limit is also a great tip.

4. Have something to look forward to. When doing any kind of job or task, you're going to need a motivator. Whenever I was a teenager, I would only clean my room and do my chores whenever I wanted to have someone over. Having company over was my motivator, because of course, no one wants to have company over in a messy house. Sometimes I even try and convince myself that my in-laws are coming to visit, and after I'm finished cleaning, I realized that my house has never looked cleaner. Find your motivator, or something to look forward to, such as "When I'm finished cleaning my house, I can do this _____".
