How to Get Motivated to Workout

Many people spend countless hours researching how to shape up their appearance and look great. However, quite often that doesn't translate into more time being spent actually doing something about it. This is because for most people, the hardest thing about working out, is getting to the gym. So I'm going to give you a few helpful tips to get you started on overcoming that laziness and finally doing something about it!

The first thing that you want to do when starting an exercise program is to have a goal. After all, it's hard to go anywhere if you don't know where you are going right? Some examples of goals that you could set would be to lose 10lb or be able to fit into a certain size of jeans. Whatever it is, set that goal. Don't just say it in your head either. Make sure that you write it down and have it somewhere where you will see it every day - perhaps on the mirror. This will serve as a constant reminder everyday of what you want to do.

When you see this reminder, don't just look at it and then walk away. Ask yourself if what you have done lately has gotten you any closer to that goal. Did you eat that cake that was offered to you last night? Have you skipped a workout recently? Do you notice an improvement in your appearance? Make sure that you push and discipline yourself.

The second thing that you want to do is to set a deadline. This is a very important step because if you just say that you want to lose 10lb with no deadline, then you can keep procrastinating and end up never accomplishing that goal. You have to have some sort of conclusion to your goal. Say you want to lose 10lb in 6 weeks. This way you have an endpoint and a time to have this goal completed by. Now when you walk by that mirror, you can not only ask yourself what you have done, but also how much more time do you have to accomplish that goal. This is a very powerful tool.

The final thing that you want to do is reward yourself. Don't just work hard and not relish on your success. Reward yourself with a trip or a special occasion. Maybe even something as simple as I won't have a piece of cake until I lose 10lb. Whatever it is, make sure that you are allowing for time to enjoy success. Remember, being slightly critical is good, but not rewarding yourself is bad.

Hopefully these tips will help motivate you to get started going to the gym. I promise that once you set these goals, going to the gym will get easier and it will eventually feel like fun. Remember, the hardest thing is getting there.
