One of the great things about the Alberta Provincial Nomination program is that it affords an easy route to settled status for foreign workers that qualify under this program. Applicants that are granted eligibility under this program are able to move to the province of Alberta to live and work and are immediately given permanent resident status once arriving in the country. This provides a quick way to Canadian citizenship as you only need to have three years of permanent residency to qualify for citizenship in Canada. Another advantage to the Alberta Provincial Nomination program over the skilled worker program is that province specific applications tend to be processed quicker than regular applications. Also lacking from the Alberta Provincial Nomination program is the points based skills assessment that is required for most other work visas for Canada. Note though that the Alberta Provincial Nomination program does evaluate an applicant's skills, as well as their experience and adaptability to life in the province, but there is no point level assigned to skills for this visa.
The objective of the Alberta Provincial Nomination program is to bring in a limited number of qualified applicants into the province of Alberta each year. Applicants are selected based on skills shortages in the province. Typically employers submit people for approval to the program. There are four stages to the Alberta Provincial Nomination program process.
In stage one, an employer submits information to Alberta Employment and Immigration that there is a skills need not being met by the domestic workforce. In stage two, Alberta Employment and Immigration reviews the information sent by the employer and recommends it to the nominee program. In stage three, approved employer applications are granted and employees can be recruited. This is typically when job offers are made. And in stage four, an approved employee typically applies for permanent residence at this point.
The Alberta Provincial Nomination program is an employer led scheme and applicants are not allowed to apply themselves. If you want to come to Canada under this program then you must get a job offer from an employer approved for the Alberta Provincial Nomination program.
If you are approved for the Alberta Provincial Nomination program, you can bring over your spouse or any dependants with you to Canada.
