How Mozilla / FireFox Browser Solved My Computer Problem

Just Switching Internet Browsers Can Solve an Aggrivating Problem!

I am far from a computer techie..but things often eventually fall into place and make sense to me and my current computer problem. I have been having a problem with a few sites not working properly. I use Internet Explorer 6 and have not upgraded due to all the bad things I have heard about upgrading to IE7 and 8. So I have stayed at 6. I also know my limited knowledge of internet, computers etc, so my first inclination was that I had done something wrong, had a wrong setting, deleted something I shouldn't have.. you know.. my fault.

Well, yesterday I put out some questions on Associated Content forum asking why things don't look right on the site... icons and images and even Google Ads are either not there or placed in bad positions on the articles. Someone responded to try another browser.

I also use Mozilla/Firefox browser for some things, just kind of a backup. So I opened Mozilla FireFox and logged into Associated Content and low and behold... it worked fine! Everything was where it should be. Great! Now that the problem has been fixed I can now go find what I was looking for. I went to a fellow
Content Producer to read an article that she wrote about something else and noticed another article she had written.... YouTube to Drop IE6 Support .

Now, I don't do much with YouTube, but what caught my eye was its reference to not supporting Internet Explorer ... which is what was causing my problem with Associated Content. I read the article and sure enough... seems some sites are tired of dealing with Internet Explorer's constant upgrades and new versions! I can sure understand that. I am also tired of their constant new versions, upgrades and the subsequent bugs, problems and hassels.

The next day, I read on Yahoo News.... Microsoft to Let Users Pick It says that new desktops programed with Windows will now also be programmed with other browsers that can be chosen as the default browser.

"Windows would still include Internet Explorer, but users would be able to disable it. Computer manufacturers could also choose to install other browsers, set them as default and disable Internet Explorer."

Now, this might just be an issue in Europe, however.. since Windows and Internet Explorer are world-wide... it might just start in Europe, but could very well migrate to the United States. So I'd say best to be prepared!

I know when I bought my first PC.. I didn't know anything about browsers, so I only used what was there. Years down the road now, I know that you can just download the browser of your choice and forget IE altogether. Newbies might not know that so it is good that they will come pre-programmed and the user given the opportunity to choose.

Since I was already familiar with Mozilla/Firefox and used it a little for other things and have heard so many good things about it for awhile now and since Mozilla is what fixed my other problem, I figured "why not try it?" So I went and copied/transfered all my Favorite Places from Windows/Internet Explorer 6. A few quick and easy steps and there they were on Mozilla/Firefox. I moved a few things around for my own personal convenience and had it
organized
in a few minutes! And for me.. that is astonishing as I usually have to struggle with things like this. But easy it was!

Moral of the story? If you have problems with a site.. it might not be you - but instead, the browser you are using. At least try it in another browser before you pull your hair out at the roots, throw your PC out the window or do a Factory Restore and loose most everything you have! Check it out for yourself and see what works for you.

How to Import Favorite Places

Once the FireFox browser is open... at the top of the screen... click on BOOKMARKS.
1. Click on ORGANIZE BOOKMARKS. A dialog window will open names "LIBRARY".
2. At the top of this box.. choose IMPORT AND BACKUP.
3. Click IMPORT HTML.
4. The box called IMPORT WIZARD appears and has a list of the browers you currently have installed on your PC. Microsoft Internet Explorer is the option to choose.
5. Click NEXT and it start to copy over your IE Favorite places... they will remain on IE so if you still want to use IE... you can.
6. Close FireFox, reopen.. choose BOOKMARKS
7. Find the BOOKMARK that says FROM INTERNET EXPLORER and open it.. and there you have it! Everything you had in Favorite Places on IE.. you now have on Mozilla/FireFox.

I already had some bookmark categories there, so I just did a drag and drop of the newly transferred places into the existing categories and then deleted the Bookmark called "From Internet Explorer". I also went to the option to set Mozilla/FireFox as my default browser and add an icon to my task bar.

There are additional things you can download to use such as Plug-ins and Real Player and things like that and also there might be things that need tweeked to work properly. Mozilla/FireFox has everything you need or use..so give it a try. I am sure glad I did as it solved problems this non-techie girl couldn't figure out! And I have been using it ever since, and I really like the multiple sites open in one window feature. I can do all I need to do just by jumping from tab to tab. It is so easy to work with. With IE.. it was from window to window and just very cumbersome.

In short.. it is quick, easy and if I can do it.. anyone can!
