For the average LASIK eye surgery the costs range pretty significantly. Usually $1950 total for an eye is expected. But it can range anywhere between $1500 and $1600. It depends on how basic or how customized of a procedure that you want done. For instance, if you have a Wavefront mapped LASIK using an advanced laser costs can skyrocket up to $3600 per eye!
The location of where the LASIK eye surgery is performed will also affect the price. Whether it is performed at a national chain, private office, or universal medical center will all play a role in how much you pay and what your vision after LASIK is like. Costs between private offices and major medical centers will fluctuate a lot. The cost of a national chain will probably be the cheapest of all, but you want to be careful of too' good to be true prices' that are advertised as bargains. These prices often come with an inexperienced surgeon or a LASIK surgeon who is using substandard equipment. And most of the time, there are hidden costs and fine print fees that aren't disclosed upfront.
LASIK costs will also vary from surgeon to surgeon and can also vary depending on your geographic location. A way that you can be sure to nail down your price when talking with the surgeon is to ask the following questions.
Will there be any follow up appointments after the surgery?
Will there be use of any prescription antibiotics?
Are there any extra fees for situations that may arise after LASIK is performed?
It is always tempting to go with the lowest price, but you should take precautions to have the best vision after LASIK possible. Like anything with our western society, you get what you pay for. Taking a financial hit now will be worth it when enjoying clear vision for years to come.
